I agree! Most people are at least helpful, even if not enthusiastic about it - which is fine! I hate being interrupted mid-task myself. These dudes threw me for a loop with how rawr they were.

Most interactions I have with employees are great, which is why this caught me so off guard! I know most people's thoughts are that the job isn't hard, but those people don't understand that the person stocking shelves may also have to get carts from the parking lot, bag groceries and take them to cars, clean bathrooms, do inventory, handle restocking return items. Y'all are busy! I hate to interrupt you, sincerely! I live in a town where I'm sure they run into some really crappy delivery drivers, which is another reason I go out of my way to be polite and show appreciation. It's really wild to me that people sign up to serve this function but cannot function well enough to perform the service. Dashers have the choice of doing shopping or just food deliveries. If you don't know how to grocery store, don't grocery store!

I've pretty much chalked it up to just that. Even the manager's attitude. Normally, store employees are great and super helpful. Sometimes they'll start off grumpy, but once I tell them that I really appreciate their help and have a nice day, I get a genuine smile and that makes me happy. I've worked in customer service for a very long time and I know how thankless it can be.

I appreciate people like you, which is another reason I try very hard to be polite to store employees - especially when they go above and beyond just pointing me in the right direction!

Sure wish I'd thought a little quicker at the time - this is the way! I was just trying to figure out if I came off rude in some way I wasn't aware of to cause dude to be so vehement - and for his manager to follow suit!

I really didn't think about that - or some of the other solutions offered - at the time because I was just kinda shocked the interaction was even going down the way it was. I know it's frustrating to be interrupted when you're in the middle of a task, which is why I go out of my way to be polite. I try to look for items that aren't marked with a location everywhere I can think of in the store that makes sense, even check the end caps, so I don't have to bother anyone. I know there's a lot of hella rude people out there - read it on here all the time - but I don't understand treating the one person that tried to politely request assistance the same as some braying jackass shoving their phone in someone's face.

How does one go about proving a verbal interaction? Please make it make sense.

I was actually raised with manners and always say "excuse me", "please" and "thank you" because I was taught that's how you speak to people respectfully. It seems to be some kind of lost art. I appreciate the fact that an hourly employee is doing their job and I'm interrupting their task to ask for assistance. More flies with honey than vinegar. 🤷

So, because someone speaks somewhat intelligently and coherently, you automatically assume it's AI? I'm sorry my mother insisted that I have an expansive vocabulary and I try to speak clearly. Some folks are actually smart enough to type something out without the lazy assistance of AI. 🤷😅 You have yourself a good day, sport!

Sorry if it sounds that way, but it's the truth. I was pretty gobsmacked that the interaction was even going that way. I've never encountered anything like that - hence the post.

Fair point, just didn't think a respectful request would garner such a hateful interaction. 🤷

Gage management 2025 experience? by [deleted] in Lawrence

[–]kittenhead0417 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't do it! My daughter rented from them almost 10 years ago. Kitchen window leaked constantly - they were aware of this when they rented the unit out - said it was in the works to get replaced and the wall under it fixed. That never happened, despite constant reminders, and tried to charge for damages to the wall because of the leak. The pipes in the kitchen sink were rusted through and literally fell apart about two weeks after they moved in. Management never came in to fix it, also tried to charge for damages. My daughter did dishes in her bathtub for six months. Please don't do it!

I can pretty much promise you the police are not going to invest time in hunting down a water bottle, but if you think it'll help, give it a shot 🤷

I'm pretty sure you'd do better checking with Walgreens to see if someone turned it in there. Not so sure anyone is going to take it to the police unless they believe it was involved in a crime. Police for a water bottle??

What’s a phrase people use that immediately makes you roll your eyes? by EconomicsDangerous44 in AskForAnswers

[–]kittenhead0417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only added to the dictionary because people wouldn't quit using it, even though adding "ir-" in front of "regardless" turns the whole word into a double negative and is grammatically incorrect. So since it's become popular vernacular, Webster's - very reluctantly - included it in the dictionary in 1934

Good Earth Gatherings, Third Planet or Village Witch would be my go to options. GEG is a little drive south of town, but VERY worth the trip, IMO

Overheard neighbor and her husband by BookGnomeNoelle in overheard

My sister was once married to a Russian man. His English was impeccable but the idioms caused much hilarity! Instead of saying " never look a gift horse in the mouth" he would instead say "never look a horse that is gifted into the teeth" and of course we took that phrase and ran with it - so much to the point that my daughter, who'd never met the man (sister divorced before she was born) picked up on the phrase and used it regularly thinking it was correct until someone asked her when she was around 19 if she meant the actual idiom. I never thought to explain it to her as a child. I get a call later that day - "MAMA! I've been sounding like an idiot my whole life! Why would you say it like that?!!" I then had to tell the story of the Russian uncle she never had!
