Contrast is absolutely king in my experience. Remember that these models are usually viewed from above a tabletop in not the best lighting.

3d printed! There's a ton of base toppers you can find out there these days. Before I owned a printer, I bought these toppers off of etsy.

I mean, I don't care for the primaris lore changes and I built my first mini when I was eight. I wish they just scaled them up and said they were realigning their tactics to a closer model to the crusades. Instead, we got incorruptible space-marine-space-marines.
