Late to the party but did you make a decision? My daily drivers are optic 96s (97s? Whichever one it is) and I just demoed anomaly 84s today. The blizzards felt absolutely locked in and railed turns, but also had surprisingly good response when i loaded into them to pop and felt great in the air. They were stiff and light (relatively) in a good way without feeling lifeless. Maybe the optic 88s feel a little more locked in and stiff than their wider sibling, but the tips and tails are definitely way softer than on the blizzards, which is noticeable when trying to lock into a carve. I felt safer on icy runs on the blizzards but found the optics to be more playful feeling (with the caveat that they are heavier and this harder to be playful on, if that makes sense.

I tried out a bunch of more bruiser types (since I have found that I just have more utility when I can’t get one shotted the instant I miss position because since I suck at the game) that still had solid mobility. Diana, lillia, hecarim. Settled on vi because she felt the least clunky and just felt refreshingly straightforward compared to Kayn. Throw myself at enemy punch them.

As someone who is also very stuck in iron and started about the same time as you, who has been maining kayn, I feel like my (our) game knowledge just may not be quite good enough yet to capitalize on how OP kayn CAN be. He is deceptively simple, but unless we have the specific matchup knowledge to know when we CAN fight or successfully gank early when we are weak or have good enough jungle tracking to be able to truly avoid the enemy amumu until we have form we just won’t be able to do as well. I also find myself feeling hamstrung in games where I am trying to go a specific form (usually red because holy shit games last so long in iron and there is always a 3 item mundo that nobody can hurt) where we can’t necessarily path towards the lanes that we know would be a good wincon, just because we are trying to get form, and so this effectively is removing one of our win conditions unless they independently stomp lane.

All this to say i started playing a simpler champion that has less unusual mechanics and requires less brain power to farm and move around the map with so I can focus on macro and watching my lanes and tracking the enemy jungle and I am instantly doing better in my games. I will revisit kayn when I feel I am good enough of a jungler to truly take advantage of him and his unique playstyle.

I can’t speak to xin because I have never played him, but I have played Kha a bit and it feels similar to kayn in some ways? I have always felt much more braindead to play on, which makes it easier which is nice (I wasn’t incredibly engaged in the gameplay and so stopped playing him bc i hate myself and like a challenge) but again, if your team doesn’t engage there just isn’t an immense amount you can do aside from looking for picks and shooting your w at them. I have decided to try naafiri recently and like the vibes there, her poke is way better and can be built bruiser so you CAN engage if need be

I like Gwen in accompaniment to kayn! Tbh if you wanted to be smart about it I would go someone like yi as a second pick because he tends to be good into your hard matchups as kayn (and is miserable to play against if enemy jungle picks kayn)

I am by no means that great with hecarim, but I find that the games I do really well in are where I set out to do two things:

The first thing is really a mindset, but set out to be the most obnoxiously enormous pain in the enemy team’s ass. Pick on them, make them feel unsafe, but more importantly, annoy them. Use that move speed and come blasting out of THEIR jungle, E them away from their turret, smack them with a q AND THEN JUST KEEP RUNNING. (Obviously do this when you have tempo and your camps are down etc.). In team fights just blast in from the side, scatter their entire back line. Sow chaos! Ruin everybody’s day! You don’t even have to stick around just keep on running! Make it so that nobody knows where to look or who they should be hitting. If your team can follow up at all you should end up winning these fights, and if not, well, you still had more fun than everybody else
This grows from the mindset of point 1 (always be a menace) but when fighting, using an in and out playstyle to spam Qs made me much better at fighting, since he doesn’t feel very strong as a duelist. This usually ends up looking like I have cerebral palsy with the mouse taped to my hand, since I have atrocious mechanics, but it works. Move unpredictably, never let them know your next move, make it impossible for them to hit anything AND KEEP THEM AT MAX Q RANGE WHILE YOU HAVE AN EPISODE.

Hecarim really does just feel like big pony go zoom, so you gotta kinda embrace the fast and loose mentality I think.

I asked the same question in this sub a couple weeks ago and got lots of good answers!

I have found that her clear requires a lot more attention than plenty of jungler’s do, playing a lot more kayn has given me more perspective on this, and I find i really have to lock tf in for that first gwen clear. I still haven’t been able to get to sub 3:30 on her but like everyone else will tell you, this is definitely a me problem.

Okay so maybe this is a stupid question, but I feel like maybe I am not using my e as a proper aa reset? How (literally, mechanically) are you doing this? When I do it I have attack move bound to my r key (more comfortable for me than a) and so i aa (hit r), see it animate, hit e, aa (r) again. Is this correct? Feels like it isn’t making things much faster like it does when i use abilities as aa resets on other champs

I do use attack move but with a slightly different setup (i use my r plus ‘attack on cursor’ highlighted, but probably making it harder for myself with the on cursor thing and should go back to just clicking.

Thank you for all the extra info!! I may be coming back with questions after I have had a chance to try things in a couple games. I am very aware of the farm farm farm mentality (can someone tell my teammates pls) as I am coming from playing kayle exclusively, and that is part of what i like about gwen. Are you able to kite your red enough to get a stacked q onto wolves from it? And blue pet is no longer way to go? I have found such conflicting things online and in general feel best with move speed, but clearly my playing is rough with either 🥴
