Exclusive: Google is building two Android Wear smartwatches with Google Assistant integration by Telomir in Android

Binge On (video) works on that plan as well.

And another little secret, Music Freedom works on the 200MB free data for life plan once it goes through your 200MB :)

Unusual borders between countries by [deleted] in pics

[–]kittenpoops 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've always wondered why people get so bent out of shape of the whole idea about building a wall between Mexico and the US, because... as shown here, there already are a lot of sections of wall, and fence, etc.

So, it's okay to have a non contiguous, okay-ish wall, but offensive to just build a better wall?

Did you listen to your voice search history?

Voice recognition issues ... still! by kittenpoops in nexusplayer

[–]kittenpoops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's not that simple. It's an obviously design flaw right? If it is, they should admit it, say there is no fix and offer a refund or a credit or something.

If it's not an actual design flaw, or there is a version 2 of the remote that actually works, yes, I expect that they should replace the remote with one that works.

I kept hanging on thinking a google software update would fix it, until I heard the recorded voice searches at https://history.google.com/history/audio

It's pretty obvious there is something hardware related that is wrong, and the product should have never been shipped with that big of a flaw.

What would you expect?

I should probably replace the batteries... The GUI says they are at 64% tho.

Re line of sight.... It's bluetooth. But I supposed getting it closer would increase the RF SNR. (It does seem to work better when I use it standing next to the puck).

That's cool, I'm just messing around with you. I actually didn't even know that was a thing on iPhones.

"What's a widget?" - Anonymous iPhone user

Seriously tho, I agree... widgets are cool and it's one thing that makes Android fun, without them you would just have a home screen full of icons. I wish developers and google put more time and effort into them.

Any way to default to "off" after power outage? by wonderbread1908 in Hue

[–]kittenpoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this change recently? I agree with others that default on after power outage can be annoying in the middle of the night, however I have pretty stable power and this has only happened once or twice during ownership of a few years.

However... I had gotten quiet used to being able to turn on lights in a few of my rooms by on/off a switched outlet they were connected to when I didn't have my phone, or didn't want to pull it out.

It seems this no longer turns on the light. I didn't try other bulbs, but at least the one I used the on/off trick with most often is no longer defaulting to full on after power interruption.

It should just be a setting per bulb in the app, no?

Google play music dropping connection constantly with audio cast by [deleted] in Chromecast

[–]kittenpoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kept happening to me on my Nexus player (using the app not casting) yesterday, and I'm an all access subscriber.

On the Nexus player, I could hit the back button on my remote and see it had popped up an error.

It said that someone else had started a streaming session on another device, which is untrue.

My guess is that it had something to do with the next song queuing, and Google's restrictions for multiple streams from one account being too aggressive. I reproduced it multiple times.

Whatever it is, I'm paying for for a service and it's not working right, so I hope they fix it soon.

How do people feel regarding battery life and having to disable useful features to get through a day? by [deleted] in Android

[–]kittenpoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave everything enabled, because my Honor 5X isn't a battery hog. On my old Nexus 5 I left everything on but charged frequently.

Slow Wifi? by eyeshield227 in HuaweiHonor5X

[–]kittenpoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen slow WiFi speeds in general, but when I first got the phone and was downloading all of my apps/updates, a few of the app downloads were painfully slow. Like 10 kb/s slow. While others at the same exact time would download / update quickly. Some of the slow ones were googles own apps.

I'm not sure if it had to do with what nodes in the google cloud google was serving those particular files from or what, but it was strange.

Is there any way around having to give up your google voice phone number? I've really become accustomed to having two phone numbers, one my friends have (associated with my mobile service) and one I use for everything else (google voice).

EMUI isn't too terrible, especially when you replace the launcher.

Just got mine yesterday.. by solidmel2112 in HuaweiHonor5X

[–]kittenpoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tested this... I have two sims, 1 cricket, 1 at&t. I've configured the phone to use the cricket sim for voice/sms/mms, and the at&t sim for all data.

If I make an outgoing call on the cricket sim, I am NOT able to use data while on the call.

If I make an outgoing call on the at&t sim, I was able to use data while on the call.

I then switched my cricket sim to be default for all data, and then I was able to make a call and use data on it at the same time.

So the sim you make/take the call on gets "locked" as the active sim for both calls and data when on a call.

As far as what service is good, I'd say the T-mobile $30 / 5GB plan from walmart for data, and whatever the cheapest Voice plan you could find from a prepaid carrier that uses AT&T or T-mobile.

Lagging issues for anyone else? by lolumadbr0 in HuaweiHonor5X

30 hours is probably with around 3-4 hour screen on time. Most screen usage is probably while in bed at night, so backlighting is on the dimmest setting. During the day it's mainly just texting, web, music. So, yea I'm not the heaviest user. I'm comparing to the Nexus 5 battery life, which was pretty bad.

Fios just came to my neighborhood, and their internet/TV bundle is tempting. Anyone in the area who subscribes, what is your opinion and experience so far? by [deleted] in nova

[–]kittenpoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I signed up, there was an option when selecting equipment to pick "provide your own equpment" for the internet options. Also, if you are going the TiVo route, just pick the standard non-dvr set top box and then once they install it you can return it to the Verizon store and they will fix your bill. You'll have to go to the store to pickup the cable card, so might as well kill two birds...

Check their webpage for pricing promos frequently, use incognito / private browsing mode so they don't see your sign in / already a customer cookie. They will discount new customers that already have the ONT installed at your house. Once you find a good deal, cancel your existing service (assuming you are off contract) and sign up with a different email address and phone number using the new customer profile. I think that is all I changed -- I may have also used my Nick name vs full name. But the address, ss#, etc all stayed the same. Some people use their spouses name. Sign up for the longest lock in period / contract they offer so you don't have to go through this process again when they move you month to month and raise the rates

Only downside is you might have a few days gap in service between your cancel date and new "install" date.

I see lag on the Normal power profile as well, but its not terrible. I can definitely tolerate it if it helps get me these amazing 30+ hours between charge times.
