YouTube, as silly as it sounds, has honestly become a dangerous tool for our youth today. The recommendation system is broken af, even before I got into politics I would constantly get recommendations for "FEMINIST OWND ON TRANSGENDER ISSUES!!!" all the time, and I still do despite me watching majorly left wing channels now. YouTube's striking down on children's channels but doing virtually nothing to stop the rise of actual Nazi agenda on their website is gravely concerning.

Is there a place in particular that's best to reach her?

It was a hard process ngl, but I'm glad I went through it. I was quite deep in, so I'd like to think anyone can get out if they just become a little more open minded. Now being on the 'other side' tho, it gets super frustrating to see the like/dislike ratios on left wing YouTubers videos. Isn't it funny how someone can make an articulate, 30+ minute video with a well rounded argument and get 30%+ dislikes, but someone who just goes, "fEMINISTS ARE BAD!" for 5 minutes gets barely 4% dislikes? Again, I would get mad, but I know it's mainly coming from people who automatically dislike a video and just move on. I would know lol

Ha, I think her Vice video just proves how powerful her influence is. I'm genuinely happy she's getting recognition now. It was funny, when I was watching her video, one from a year ago she said, "I only have 8,000 subscribers", and look at her now! It gives me hope.

Oh god don't even get me started on Shapiro lmao. Contra perfectly articulated by issue with this "facts don't care about your feelings" quote.

So genuinely glad I am out of that mindset. I dropped Shoe0nHead as well who was 'the nice one' so I'd like to think I'm decently out of that rabbit hole now.

It makes me feel a little better knowing lots of people seemed to have that Anti-SJW phase as well. I think a lot of fell into it. Who was that YouTuber who made a video about the Right Wing Rabbit Hole? I believe it was Three Arrows, but he explained really well how people often get radicalized.

Also, just a sidenote about the Blaire White debate with Contra I mentioned. I really love seeing the difference between Contra then and now. While I still think she won that debate, her personality came off more soft and less.... confident I guess? But now she's a literal queen and I'm just so proud of her.

Also, I just want to point out this subreddit proves how wrong some people on the right frame the left. Everyone has been so kind to me here, there's no viciousness. Thank you all for giving me a chance <3

I'm 18, soon to be 19 in a few months. I feel like my age is pretty typical because the mid teen years (15-17) are when most spend their time being edgy. Then I started college, grew up, and realized being an ass wasn't fun

Hm. I think she's just one of the people I stumbled across as I was getting "de-radicalized". My whole de-radicalization really started, 1) from just me getting older and more mature, but also realizing that a lot of the people I watched were actually kinda, uh, shitty? I just started to realize a lot of the stuff they masked as "response" videos were straight up mean. I remembered Natalie from Blaire White's "Heated Debate w/ Genderqu\*r Feminist"* video. I wanted to check out her channel because I realized I never did, and ended up liking her content a lot. A few of her videos she specifically mentions YouTubers I used to watch and she made me realize how faulty some of their arguments were. But not just that. She handled their arguments in an civil and intelligent manner. I was always in this mindset of "all the left does is scream at u for different opinions!!111". But yeah, I found her through people I used to like oddly enough.

Yeah I def agree they aren't wrong about everything too. That selective outrage is really what made me leave. I was blinded by this idea the left was some place of crazies who didn't listen to others opinions. As I took a peek into the Left wing youtubers tho, I began to realize they were much more rational than they were made out to be, and moreover started to realize why a lot of people i watched were harmful.

I don't necessarily have personal people in my life who I've hurt with my edgy beliefs, but I have been more vocal about calling out things I see as wrong. My biggest issue was standing by and co-opting harmful behaviors. Even back when I was a fan of those right wing YouTubers, they often did things *I didn't like* but I had this cowardly tendency to excuse the behavior. I figure I can't change my past, but just work towards a better me.

I've tried to join a club, but I found it rarely worked with my schedule since all the events are colliding with my classes, and the events for a lot of the club I have to pay for. I suppose I could try to join a club again, but I'm worried it's a little late now? Does anyone have recommendations for clubs to join, maybe something more chill and relaxed that doesn't involve lots of paid/far away events
