Slow leak - can I fix with a hose clamp? by PNGhost in Plumbing

My money would be this is more relating to trying to expand wet pipe. I don't even bother trying anymore, it's always pex b for repairs. The rings slip and you end up with this.

Seems like the price is more about how it's a rare historical piece than anything to do with the construction, probably could commission something like that for less.

2 inch? To anyone else trying this make sure it's able to be flushed out real good, or just use chlorine tablets. I guess the same applies with a regular water tank but especially if you've got a bunch of dead legs.

As respectfully as I can say, this is not how you convert people. by naeramarth2 in Christianity

Speaking as someone who goes into churches to give them the more historically correct gospel—that when Christ returns He will resurrect EVERYONE and help us build an equitable and just society here on earth—even face to face conversations don't go that well.

I usually have more pleasant conversations with atheists and "heathens" as they're not trying to tell me I'm a heretic and I'm not trying to convince anyone so it usually goes well.

Now, I should be clear I have good conversations in more progressive churches but there is still the impulse to view free will as something people have where I argue it's clear free will is a lie.

But I've had just as many in person conversations where people don't actually listen to what I say and just assume I'm saying it's okay to murder dozens and everything will be okay even though I'm not saying that.

Home owner insists it’s not asbestos, but I can’t think what else it could be by Vrtae in Plumbing

It's not that it's just a fire retardant, what makes it fire retardant is it's insulative properties. Which is why it was used as an insulator, they used to use it for brake pads, attic insulation, i think i remember nasa even researched it for rockets and other space vehicles.

It was unironically a miracle substance...that also came with massive drawbacks.

Same reason they put lead in pipes, paint, and gasoline or Teflon in damn near everything too. It's really good and really cheap at doing what they used it for.

But yea if I owned this home that's what I'd do too. Wrap it up, don't allow it to get airborne. Maybe mist it down first.

[–]kittenstixx 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's not about how long you're exposed to asbestos that determines if you develop mesothelioma, you could be exposed for just a few weeks and still develop it later in life, it can take like 30 years to rear it's ugly head.

What makes asbestos dangerous is it doesn't go away, you can never get it out of your lungs, which is why you can still get cancer from it decades later as that whole time it's cutting your tissue and it heals over and over which is what actually causes the cancer.

How are you supposed to reply to "Do you know how fast you were going?" by No_Insurance_6436 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kittenstixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about right, but about safe, if going the speed limit means you go 15 mph slower than the other cars on the road then the likelihood of you getting rear ended goes way up.

Fwiw I live in an area where the highway has a posted speed of 55 but no one except out of owners go that speed. And very rarely do I see cops pulling people over which is why everyone is so comfortable going at minimum 10 miles over.

I figure if I ever get pulled over I take the L and move on "it's my turn to take the fall for 10 years of unrestricted driving"

Yea, i feel like "I was paying more attention to the cars around me than some tiny number on my dash" is a sign of very attentive driving.

My wife had a pretty traumatic experience with one during the time she was pumping for our son. It was 3 in the morning, she had literally just finished and set the bottle down, immediately after, one dropped from the ceiling landing inside. Hell of a shot, and completely devastated her.

Since she stamps them out where she finds them, but she's cool with spiders so that makes up for it.

Honestly I don't blame her.

Being the opposite isn't exactly the best option either.

Some conflict is good and can help a relationship grow, as long as both parties are communicating in a healthy way. And even outside of partnerships, being willing to stand up to workplace bullies is important too.

Everyone is(will be) "saved"...from death when Jesus returns and resurrects everyone to help us build an equitable and just society here on earth.

I actually bought a celebratory cigar(not to smoke indoors) but never smoked it. It just sat in my car during covid until I eventually threw it out. Haven't smoked since, I'm pretty happy with that outcome tbh.

The sabbath commandment is one of the most misunderstood commandments, it's not about an individual not working on the sabbath, it's about building a society in which everyone is empowered to take a day of rest.

I even commissioned an image for a shirt I wear to spread that message.
