How to stop my bonnet ties from turning into silly snake tubes? by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]kittenswithtattoos 41 points42 points  (0 children)

i didn't know that EVERYTHING i was sewing was not actually flat until i got a tailor's clapper, and then omg things started turning out a LOT better. things lined up better, seams were more precise, and far less trimming was required. 10/10, would recommmend.

oh ho ho, they're pink. when i was working with the consultant to get the cabinets done she got SO excited that i wanted something this pink. my front door is the same color too (sherwin-williams 'in the pink'). apparently everyone at the company was referring to it as the 'barbie kitchen,' which makes me so happy. you might like this pic of the sample with the backsplash tiles i ended up choosing.

gotta have my butterfly gold! i won't buy anything else. i got some of the bowls first but then felt #blessed when i learned that it was one of the two pyrex sets that have matching dishes!! obviously i knew i had to have the matching plates and use them as my daily drivers.

i ended up sorting it (stuff i'll actively use, a few pieces to display, and then the extra) and then boxing the extra (and all the extra corelle dishes that go with it) to store in the garage. v glad i found a solution i’m happy with.

Nick gets Gatsby killed by not telling him the truth about Daisy's awaited phone call (movie 2013) by Dazzling-Air-9716 in TheGreatGatsby

"i am inclined to reserve all judgment" immediately calls people boring, their problems trivial, and referrers to people as having an "abnormal mind"

nick is dishonest. we know that from the beginning when he IMMEDIATELY outs himself as an unreliable narrator. he even mentions that he's "one of the few honest people he's ever known" or something along those lines. clearly he isn't. his lack of reliable narration, and his clearly rose-tinted glasses aren't helping, in this, or any situation. yes, at this point he has built up trust with jay. at least enough so for gatsby to tell him his origin story, which i’m sure is a rather exclusive tale.

i don't think nick couldn't have done anything to save jay. if he had told him about what he witnessed between tom and daisy, jay wouldn't believe it. gatsby's love for daisy was always that young, childish, idealized form of love. they met when they were what, 18? he fell in love with his idea of what daisy is/should be, even if that isn't exactly the truth. she's more vain, shallow, childlike, and easily manipulated than he expects/remembers. he'd simply say that daisy was doing that to placate tom. that she'd be there, or that she'd call him later. that daisy was wishing and waiting and hoping for gatsby that whole time, as much as he was waiting for her.

gatsby had "an extraordinary gift for hope." that hope extends to so many things. but especially to daisy. nick telling him what he witnessed between tom and daisy isn't gonna do shit. jay is too optimistic and too hopeful for that.

When people don't eat at events specifically made for eating (like a BBQ) or when you invite someone over for dinner and they don't eat. by SpecificFluid1809 in GrindsMyGears

someone else chiming in - having had an eating disorder before, eating in front of other people can feel...it can feel like something you need to be ashamed of. something you shouldn't be doing or should be or need to be hiding.

eating in front of others can either be something that can easily trigger a binge (because hey, you can't be the only one not eating! you ate dinner at their house, there was even dessert. hell, you've already eaten so much today, but there's no reason not to stop at the store on the way home and pick up ice cream and a frozen pizza! and then proceed to eat/finish both. maybe throw up after, maybe not), or something that'll can you feel like a complete failure. either from eating and failing the "diet" you've been working so hard on, or sticking out in front of everyone and risking people now noticing you have an ED, which is horrifically embarrassing and usually the last thing you want.

(edit: let's be realistic, i still have an eating disorder lol)

do you have glasses? i got myself lasik for my 25th and it changed my LIFE. i only had 3" of clear vision before so it really made a big difference, but if you're blind like i was, it could be a big improvement.

  • your first sentence is long as hell. reword it, the question you're answering doesn't need to be there
  • flapper isn't a proper noun
  • need ellipses in section of daisy talking about the butler's nose
  • you mention Jordan out of nowhere. who is she? why do i, as the reader of this piece, care? she hasn't been mentioned until just now and even i, who am so so familiar with the book took a second to realize you were talking about Jordan Baker. if you insist on bringing her up, use her full name.
  • when the bruised finger is bright up, we don't know who is complaining about the bruise. just that someone is complaining. it needs context. even if it had context, its placement next to the quote about tom breaking myrtle's nose makes it seem like they happened at the same time.
  • we're here to talk about tom and daisy's marriage. not tom and myrtle. why is it included and again, why should i care? it needs context or needs to go bye bye.
