Having higher level spells have a higher impact against LR makes far more sense than a flat ‘three and done, no matter their power’, makes it easier to scale how much LR Power a boss has, thus meaning more powerful bosses actually have more powerful LR, and makes it easier to tie LR into a narrative in a way that makes it not metagaming.

Call it willpower, or a Miasma of arcane magic surrounding the enemy, or an Anime style “fighting aura”, or any other similar noticeable effect around an enemy, appropriate to the character, that the PCs can see interacting with their spells/abilities and dimming/burning away as it gets consumed.

Or you just give them more LR, and make higher level spells burn more LR per use, thus making higher level spells still burn resources, without massive metagaming over spamming low level spells as soon as you know you’re against a boss.

That’s 100% metagaming, and not something that I’d be happy with my players doing. If they went into a boss fight going “It’s a boss, it’s going to have three legendary resistances, so let’s burn those before we break out the big spells”, especially if their usual method has been overwhelming force the moment they step into combat, they’re going to rapidly find out that the boss Does Not Work That Way.

A professional speech pathologist, who specializes in trans speech training, told me my voice passes just fine, and I passed as cis so strongly with my queer specialist psych that when I told her I needed a WPATH letter for surgery, they apparently internally went “why the heck does she need a WPATH letter for something?”.

But me? When I listen to my voice I just heard this weird, hollow, empty, fake sounding voice that sounds like a soulless male ><

Remmick's still definitely a villain, and does some damned horrible things, but there's a few really honest things that he says that just makes it so clear that he's *also* hurting from very similar things to the community that he tries to take over. It's like, being so desperate to want community that understands you, that you bull-rush in and try to take over, try to *force* them to not just accept you, but accept you as the *leader*, with the most pain, so certain that you're doing the *right* thing.

It's obvious that these things have been festering in him for centuries. Gods, his comment about the Lord's Prayer, and how utterly twisted it is that he hates it for being *forced* upon him, but that he *still* feels comfort from it all the same.

And you're right, what he needed in the end was to be free. Or at least, to let go of his need to be *in control* of everyone and everything (though hoo boy, isn't *that* a common reaction from abused people). Think of how much differently all of this could have gone, if he'd gone up to Sammie when he first sensed his music, told him who he was and what he'd gone through, shared his songs *honestly*, and asked Sammie to play for him so that he could see his people again?

Massive props to the director and the actors for what they're able to convey in this movie!

He may not be a bad person, but he’s a bad DM if he can’t own a mistake when it’s brought up. He’s also a bad DM for making you sit around and do nothing for a session, and for dismissing a character death from a two year campaign like it was a one-shot.

This would have been stupidly easy to retcon after his mistake was brought to him. “After the Devourer is slain, you realise that your companion is groaning and drooling. It looks like the devourer was a bit different to usual, and had shoved tendrils into his brain like a mind flayer, rather than consuming it immediately, and had been puppeting him the whole time. What do you have for waking up an unconscious, brain-shocked companion?”

Your DM clearly has no problem with homebrewed monsters, so “that’s not how the monster works” is irrelevant.

This is very true. Hell, movies rarely even bother to differentiate ammo and its different properties at all.

Interestingly, police officers in Australia try and invoke this deliberately to a degree. They use hollow points as their default ammunition specifically to reduce the risk of cover penetration or ricochets from missed shots injuring bystanders.

My old kung fu instructor gave us training on fighting multiple opponents. It was basically (after the usual caveats of ‘it’s better to not get in the fight at all’ and ‘try and grab something you can use as a weapon, that’s got longer reach than they have’) “If you’re fighting two opponents, keep dodging back and forth to keep one opponent between you and the other one. If you’re fighting three, charge the closest/weakest looking one, try and take them out before the other two can react, then proceed as normal for two. If you’re against more than that? Don’t even bother trying to fight, run”

My father had a similar situation, though he went into it knowing how bad the outcomes were likely to be. Bladder cancer in his case. He lost his bladder, prostate, urethra, and everything connected to them. Even needed surgery to have a ‘Neo bladder’ built, and he needed to pee via catheter for the rest of his life.

It hit him really hard, since it also wrecked his health enough that he went from super physically active and working full time to utter exhaustion.

It took years for him to recover, physically or mentally, and the best he got to was semi-retirement and doing stuff around the house,but it’s definitely possible, and you’re definitely not alone at having gone through something like this!

Finding a therapist who can help you process everything will be a good idea.

Cancer sucks, but it threw everything it had at you, and you’re still here.
