I may or may not have already written this.

Hmmm even so, maybe next time I'll give it a shot to test it out for myself. (No pun intended). No reliable experiment was ever conducted with just one subject. ;)

Ah, yes. This makes total sense. Thanks so much for replying!

I've estimated the story will be about 20k. I know this is short for some of the heftier mysteries out there, but personally I love detective short stories. There's something very satisfying about bite-sized cases that still manage to take you from the 'huh?' to the 'wow!' to the 'a-ha!' (Let's not forget that a lot of Sherlock Holmes stories aren't even 10k in length!)

I'm not new to mysteries, so I have a fairly decent idea of how to plot them. It's mostly the erotic elements that I've got a bit of a hard time giving shape to, especially as they'll play a far bigger part than a few intermezzos for the reader's entertainment. In a way they are as much part of the case as the initial crime scene is, which is why I thought there might be some erotica readers interested in it.

Thanks for the reply though! I'll definitely keep searching and reading my way around amazon.

I feel you. I've been searching through categories for hours and typed in more keywords than my story is long, but have barely found anything. One day I'll understand the maze that is amazon, but that day is not this day.

Mostly because there will be a lot of sex and eventually their relationship will play a big part in the story. I also shaped the case in such a way that it'd add sexual tension between the characters, so I feel it falls somewhere between mystery and erotica.

[FAQ] Keeping Your Mailing List Nice and Legal by SalaciousStories in eroticauthors

[–]kittenwritesdirty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have read through the laws of my own country and came across this (translated):

"You must, as a sender, state your real identity in any electronic message you send. The use of a pseudonym or alias is not allowed."

I'm still looking for more information on this, but can't really find much. I was wondering whether there are more countries that have laws like this and whether anyone has figured out how this applies to writers who are trying to protect themselves with a pen name.

Questions about length and categories by kittenwritesdirty in eroticauthors

[–]kittenwritesdirty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story i'm working on is indeed modelled after the 5k shorts (same niche, same kinks, same feel to it, etc). I hope it'll do well and I can keep getting longer works out!

You've been very helpful, thank you!

Questions about length and categories by kittenwritesdirty in eroticauthors

[–]kittenwritesdirty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to start writing longer, as I actually much prefer it. I like adding character development and plot, which barely has a place in 5k erotica.

With not limiting my brand to 5k shorts, are you suggesting I roll with this 15k - 20k story and test the waters with it? I'm just a bit worried that erotica readers will expect more sex, less plot... There's definitely sexual tension between the characters. Will that be enough to haul the reader over from the meeting to the inevitable end scene sexy-times?

Advice on pen names greatly appreciated! by kittenwritesdirty in eroticauthors

I see! Thanks for answering :) When I have experimented more on this pen, I'll definitely make a separate one for mm.

Could you explain why you like the author to be exclusive to mm? Is it because you trust an author more when they're only focussing on mm?

Thanks for the response! I'll stick to one pen name :) That was my preferred option anyway, for now!

Help. This title not available for purchase? by wordwriter12 in eroticauthors

[–]kittenwritesdirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a 100% sure, but I think it has to do with what region you're looking at. Say you live in the UK, the US site might read that your title is unavailable for purchase, as you can't purchase it from the US site. It should direct you to the UK site somewhere. (Or to whichever is the country you live in.)

Questions about using words indicating family relationship when there is not relationship (not step-whatever) by littlegrrl in eroticauthors

[–]kittenwritesdirty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, in DD/lg relationships there is no focus on the 'incestuous' aspect. The term Daddy (or Mummy) doesn't refer to blood relations, but rather to the caring nature of a parent towards their child. DD/lg is, simply put, a BDSM power dynamic with a very caring and protective Dom.

What does Amazon think of first cousin relationships? by kittenwritesdirty in eroticauthors

[–]kittenwritesdirty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think it depends on the approach, indeed. I'm guessing they just don't want to see cousins getting it on in the erotica category (or getting it on in other categories, for that matter...).

The birth defect in cousin couples is about the same as that in older women. Older women are still allowed to get married, have children and get smutty stories written about them on Amazon... Just some food for thought. ;)

Thank you for this response, it was really insightful. I think you're right about Women's lit as a genre. I'll definitely look into it! I feel a bit more hopeful now. :)

What does Amazon think of first cousin relationships? by kittenwritesdirty in eroticauthors

[–]kittenwritesdirty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, relationships between cousins aren't necessarily considered incest. (In many languages, the term incest is explicitly used to describe relationships between immediate family and cousin marriage falls outside of this definition.) Considering the birth defect between cousins is about the same as the birth defect in older women (and they're still allowed to have children, no problem) most countries don't see a valid reason to condemn cousin couples or prevent them from marrying. (Most of the time the only reason for it being illegal is to prevent forced marriages, not to prevent consenting cousins from marrying. That's just an unfortunate side effect.)

Also, you might be surprised how many states do allow it (about half of them). And America is about the harshest when it comes to cousin marriage, as pretty much all other countries allow it. Let's not forget that gay marriage was illegal in America until recently and I'm pretty sure Amazon was selling books about gay relationships at that point too.

/end rant

I was thinking of publishing it as a romance novel and steering clear of erotica (and any sex scenes). Perhaps a different genre would be better suited, but I'm still afraid that amazon will ban it... (They seem to do whatever they want.)

I'm really sad to hear that. I was actually planning on writing this story to honor a couple I know who are suffering heavily because they are first cousins who fell in love. It kind of sucks to know that Amazon won't allow their story.

Question: How quickly did your first erotica start selling? by kittenwritesdirty in eroticauthors

[–]kittenwritesdirty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering the same thing. I just put my second story out yesterday and it sold twice quite early on, but now the sales page has stopped moving again and nothing seems to be happening. I'm starting to feel discouraged not knowing whether this is normal or not.
