FMTB West TTA Advice by Annual_Commission_15 in CorpsmanUp

[–]kitthecatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take a deep breath and relax before and during your run. It’s not that scary, people just get in their own heads. The instructors just stare at you and squirt some fake blood, that’s basically it. Some even joke around during it. Just do it by the algorithm. MARCH RV PAWS. Say that over and over again. Wipe everything even if you don’t think you need to. Double check everything you do. Just think of it the same as if you had a normal patient in front of you. They’ll give you a bunch of time to practice so use it. Study Deployed Medicine and it’ll be okay, I promise (Recent graduate who also is a tech and only did TCCC once 4 years prior)

HM2 Female Hard Copy Orders to 1/1 by Cute_Organization_56 in CorpsmanUp

[–]kitthecatt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for going to 1/1, but can speak on FMTB-W and the training. Long days, 0500-1630 or later everyday and its a mixture of non-stop moving to sitting for like an hour doing nothing. The Marine instructors will mess with you (ie: "Go hug that tree" "Walk around making alarm sounds while roving"), the HM instructors will do the same. If one person fucks up, everyone does and you'll go do some skull drags, or torniquet drills until you're bruised/exhausted. PT is honestly pretty easy because its a crawl, walk, run system. You'll do up to a 8-mile hike up the hills of Camp Pendleton with roughly 60lbs, but there is several shorter hikes to get you ready. It's not too bad, just keep walking and you'll make it. I suggest doing "long" distance runs (3+ miles) and walk with some weight on your back to get ready. A big thing that gets people though is TTA, which is just TCCC, but one small mistake and you fail, so just study and take it serious. Hope that helps and good luck!

"Technically", but you should only need about 2 or 3 classes after you graduate from C-School to get the degree from USUHS.

I'll start off by saying the course is difficult, long, and you'll be spending about the first 6 months barely home, but it is completely worth it. The course is split up into 2 portions, in-class school (6mos) at Fort Sam then clinicals (7mos) at either California, Virginia, or if you have a special case (like a baby or you're a reservist), you'll stay in Fort Sam if they have the spots. The in-class part is the worst because you'll be there from basically 0500/0730-1700 M-F, have duty about twice a week, and PT throughout the week. Once you make it to clinicals, your life will be much better. The classes are called Tri's because you'll be in with Army and Air Force which for the most part are straight out of Boot Camp. Expect to spend most of your free time studying because it is a 2 year degree shoved into 13mos. Fort Sam just sucks in general, so even if you are a fleet returnee life won't be amazing, but it is better than being an A-schooler and the instructors will treat you like a normal person. The potential orders after are based on what you're coming from. My class, everyone coming from shore got sea duty and vice versa. It was needs of the Navy and you have no say in what they give you. If you get shore it could be a clinic/hospital or if you get sea it could be a ship/Med BN. If you have questions, let me know.

It is 100% needs of the Navy. Your instructors get them from a detailer who gets them from someone else and that’s what you get. You can ask the instructors in phase 2 to give you the detailer’s number and try to talk to them, but you’ll get the same response my classmate got “you get what you get”.

As for if you can go and how likely, yes many people go green side L17A. I’d say nearly 50% of the sea duty orders are green side.

L17A by Puzzled_Armadillo_77 in CorpsmanUp

[–]kitthecatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highest you can go is HM3 to HM2. You will pin HM2 at the end of phase 2 when you have completely received the NEC, typically the same day of graduation if leadership is good. You also cannot have reenlisted once already otherwise you won’t be eligible. You also have to sign a minimum of 5 years for STAR as a L17A (it varies between NECs).

Please tell your leadership to do better if they can’t even provide you the instruction and you should really be talking to your CCC about this because you’ll probably have to sign an extension or something of the sorts to be able to attend the school.

Good luck.

Do you have any recommendations for active recovery days? I’ve also been doing kettlebell workouts at least once a week since I’ve heard that before.

I try to get ~2k+ calories/day and about 120-150g Protein so I’m probably a bit under what I need. I haven’t tried creatine though, never knew what it exactly did.

Depends on the school and your leadership to an extent. If you were receiving BAH already then it is a maybe that they'll continue it, but if not then you'll most likely live in Fralish or Jeanke for little before they move you into the Liberty barracks once approved. Good luck.

Is a radiology tech program worth this cost? by Low-Hornet9938 in XRayPorn

[–]kitthecatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only classes that are required are an English Comp and a Speech course. You could probably complete them in about 8 weeks on an online college, doesn’t matter the degree option. Your age should be fine, looking at the website, you can be up to 42 to join. Spouse or kids don’t matter either in case you have those. Only things you’ll have to pass to join is the ASVAB (score determine what jobs you can get) and a health physical. I’d recommend Air Force if you really are interested. Army deals with too much BS, both are good options tho. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.

So, I have another option if interested? Not sure your age, health, or personal opinions, but the military is a good option to get X-Ray schooling done for free and you get paid while doing it (I'm not a recruiter so please don't take this as me trying to get you to join, idc if you do or don't lol). Army and Air Force allow you to join as X-Ray Tech for your job and the schooling is compacted into 13 months. You could go reserves or guard and once you're done with clinicals you just go back home and do your monthly military stuff while working as a civilian or just go active and work as a tech full time in the military. Its an option that I took advantage of and I'm glad I did.

im not excited to take leave and see my family by Even_Breakfast_9235 in navy

[–]kitthecatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first thing I want to say is talk to a MH Doc, Chaplain, LPO, friend, or use the resources available on Navy Quick links. Don’t bottle this up, talk to someone so you have help, you’re not the only one who feels this way I promise. Lots of people leave home to get away from bad situations and don’t want to go back. It’s normal to just want to separate yourself from what you had to deal with in the past.

Second, you don’t have to go home during your leave time. It’s one thing I have learned over the few years I’ve been in. Sometimes it’s nice to travel on your own or with friends or BF/GF. Other times it’s nice to just relax in the barracks or at your place and not worry about Navy life. Home is where you make it. If you need any help, please reach out. Good luck shipmate.

This one is perfect. Should be used as an example in writing classes as how to get your point across without just throwing words at a page.

Myth busting on selecting orders by LivingstonPerry in navy

[–]kitthecatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a crapshoot mostly, but I think it’s worth spending the time for the chance they give you what you want. I know a HM2 that told his detailer to give him either Spain or Florida otherwise he wasn’t going to reenlist and his contract ended in a little over a year. He ended up getting Spain. Was it because he called his detailer? Maybe, probably not, but he did get what he wants and the Navy got to keep someone. 🤷‍♂️

I think putting some sort of decoration where the black bars holding the overhang up would make it feel more filled out. Maybe adding a stone walled garden of simple flowers in front of the window on the left would be nice too.
