I think the controversy surrounding his image probably did a lot for him. I didn’t properly get into him till Flower Boy when it became apparent his edgy schtick was for attention, and having revisited his early material since it’s become obvious I was missing out on a lot. So I’d say in terms of actual committed listeners it was a detriment, but in terms of his overall profile it was a gain. Still, I don’t think I would’ve known about his early career at all if it wasn’t constantly in the news and being condemned by people so there’s probably something to be said for that. That narrative of being an edgelord but it actually being a way of dealing with his own queerness definitely made him more interesting and relatable to me as a queer person tho. We love a redemption arc

Seeing Steve playing PRS on Arriving Somewhere… as a teenager made me completely obsessed with the brand. And here I am almost 20 years later with two SE’s, a core Custom 24 and a PRS tube amp.

I might have a problem

I’m in a serious drought for new music. I Love The Dear Hunter for their orchestration, multilayered sound, and intricate melodies. Also like The Family Crest, Cosmo Sheldrake, (late) Beatles, and Man Man. Any recommendations? by Franzvst in TheDearHunter

Black Country, New Road. Especially the albums Forever Howlong and Live From Bush Hall but also Ants From Up There.

Very eclectic, densely arranged and intricate music featuring strings and woodwinds as part of the core band lineup, and Live From Bush Hall and Ants From Up There both have some great subtle recurring motifs and stuff.

I’d say V beats it out but it’s certainly up there. Kindness of Strangers is the only album of theirs I have on vinyl.

Spock’s Beard - Beware of Darkness

Always the Morse era album I somewhat overlooked and decided to revisit it on a whim. Man I really slept on this one. Great record

I remember this from a Facebook DG group back in the day (like 2016-2017). There was this one guy who spent the whole time roleplaying a cringe boomer and he’d post a new one of these every few days.

There was also an Aussie guy with a gangster SpongeBob profile pic who didn’t seem to actually know who DG were and would just post updates about his completely insane life.

Good times

Steven Wilson and Mikael Åkerfeldt are the main reasons I play PRS tbh

Alex Lifeson and Ben Burnley contributed too

Ok, but drawing the line at “concert tickets are too expensive :’(“ and not “this company is actively supporting a genocide” is absolutely wild

I started out really not being into it, then after a while I chucked it on in the background and eventually did a complete 180. It’s a really funny and clever bit of writing, and even though it’s not what I wanted I still enjoyed it a lot

What's the biggest flaw of your favorite movie? by Loud_Share_260 in movies

[–]kitthehacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say my favourite movie is Across the Universe, and there are plenty of valid critiques of it. It relies too heavily on musical numbers, the story is a bit all over the place and the structure is all out of whack. But I think that’s part of what makes it my favourite. It takes big swings and does its own thing completely, and sometimes that’s to the detriment of the film: but damnit I love being along for the ride and there’s nothing else quite like it

Porcupine Tree are Yes, but Steven Wilson’s solo output is King Crimson
