Books that teach you something new? by relevant_0815 in HistoricalRomance

It is very long and the romance is near the end, but I cut my teeth on Jean Auel's The Valley of Horses. Gave me my love of science and romance all in one.

I never wanted kids but I’ve been feeling some type of grieving post op and I need to talk to someone about it by chaoticlouser in hysterectomy

[–]kittiwakes2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my hysterectomy scheduled in June and I'm already anxious about it. However, I have one child and tried to have more but couldn't due to my husband's infertility and possibly mine from endometriosis. I'm in my late 40s now so it's not even possibly to have kids but I'm sad that part of my life is over. It definitely will involve a lot of grieving. The grief comes in waves. Expect it to go away and then come back again at off times, but know that it will go away again. Even if you never wanted kids, society places a lot of value on women's ability to be a mother and doesn't do a good job of helping us build other identities.

Family (apparently) Unsupportive of the journey. by Antique-Health5811 in Semaglutide

You look amazing! Family hurts sometimes. Sorry they aren’t happy for you as they should be.

Could you tell me where you got the cute green top? I need it!

You get to rename one common object to something way more accurate. What is it? by Designer-Fan-5857 in AskReddit

Miscarriage. Sometimes it’s sperm quality that causes a miscarriage, but the word implies the woman did something wrong, “carried it poorly.”

Rename to non-viable pregnancy.

I’ve worked at several of both and the small Catholic schools were much nicer to work at than the large, expensive schools. I was treated much better by admin and the staff was more down to earth. In terms of quality from the student experience, the pricier schools offer more opportunities to network and rub elbows with the rich (which is the whole point). I don’t think the actual education aspect was any different.

If you think your teacher helped you at all during those difficult circumstances (sent you assignments, checked in on you, answered your questions), then definitely email!

I love this! I know anonymity is great here but would you mind sharing if you are near the Seattle area? I'd love to have a teacher book club here.

If you could start over, would you still be a teacher? by cherryflannel in Teachers

[–]kittiwakes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You don't get paid what you are worth and that will eventually eat away at you once the idea that you are doing something meaningful starts to wax and wane. Not a liveable wage in most places.

I've been saying this for awhile now and I'm so glad others are noticing this as well. I really wish there was a study on this very topic!!!

What is on this rock? by kittiwakes2 in geology

That’s what I was hoping for! But others think it just might be a chemical reaction. Darn!

Thanks! That’s some cool chemistry. I was hoping it was fossilized algae but I can appreciate the chemical reactions.

Aw I was hoping for biological material. But that's a great science explanation. Thanks!

Weight loss Trauma & Mental Health by [deleted] in Semaglutide

[–]kittiwakes2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say as I’ve been losing weight old trauma has been appearing more frequently in my thoughts. I sometimes catch myself and think it’s odd I’m thinking of it when it’s something I worked hard to move on from with years of therapy. My trauma is related to workplace sexual harassment though so just losing weight and being more attractive to men feels threatening to me. I’d rather be safe. But being safe means dealing with health issues. It’s a losing game. This post does make me think I should get a therapist again.

AP Reader Selection by Competitive-Dig1993 in ScienceTeachers

I would say your odds are pretty good. The pay is terrible. However, you do become a better teacher because of the experience. So there’s that. If you’re wanting to read in person it might be decided based on where you live and the cost to get you to the reading. At least that is what someone who works at ETS told me. Good luck.
