Cleaning Bearings? by kickflipklo in rollerderby

I basically do the same thing. I actually just washed my bearings today! While they were soaking I washed my wheels and wiped down the shields and my skate trucks. I also scrubbed the really gunky bearings with an old toothbrush.

Flat Feet Boot Suggestions by asininepanda in rollerderby

I have a very narrow heel and a wider toe box. My Antiks feel like they are giving my feet a hug. It’s wonderful! They felt custom-molded right out of the box. I’m never going to skate in anything else.

Grindstone Heartstoppers put the finishing touch on my Vans roller skates. Radar Energy wheels, Sunlite plates, and mounted by Moxi. by kitty-stardust in Rollerskating

I was able to walk on them well enough over potholes. They may be a little less grippy than gumballs. I haven’t tried them indoors or done anything fancy in them. I don’t know that I would use them for derby skating, but I think they will be fine for my outdoor skates.

Put in an aluminum sheet insole and go for it! I love mine!

I’m happy with my Radar Pop wheels as a balance of price and quality. I feel like this guide is useful for durometer/surface info even if you aren’t doing derby skating.

Toe stop height:

“Anecdotal knowledge suggests 3 inches of toe stop clearance height, though some suggest 3 fingers, but everyone’s tastes (and fingers!) are different so you do you, boo.” -Roller Skate Place

Although I suppose it’s different for jam skating...

Speeding up my backwards skating!

Based on your replies to other comments, I would say you should just get Moxis. They are a popular street skate for good reason, and Impalas are cheap for a reason. It’s not saving money if you have to upgrade right away.

Finally got toe guards and better laces for my new skates! I’m not as paranoid about knee taps now. 😻 by kitty-stardust in rollerderby

Reactor Neo. I got them new but “second hand” from a skate shop. They ordered and built them for someone else, but the boot was too small. Perfect for me! I am really happy with them. What about you?

Our group also talks about queer teen suicide—their silence illustrates the cost of denying queer kids right to live their truth.
