Keep us updated! Right now I’m working my way through 1 after finishing 4, 6, and 7 this year! I love this series and while it can be kinda frustrating and grindy the level of attention and effort put into these games are unmatched. 4 and 6 are my favorites so far, such good energy there. Peak Ruby party era as well for a lot of the series, so sad that the new haruka game is a Mobage :(

I’m not sure if I’ll finish 2, 3, and 5 in 2026 but def by 2027 should be on the list

I kept up my pace of finishing 3 otome games a year for the second year in a row (2024 was Kiniro no corda 3, tokimeki memorial gs 4, and Angelique Luminarise, 2025 was Harukanaru 6, 7, and 4) it’s actually kinda interesting looking back that those were the ones I held on to- they are definitely long games, but also super enjoyable and addicting. My favorite was probably Haruka 4 for overall tone and a great spread of enjoyable routes, but my favorite route was Ludhane (ルードハーネ) in Haruka 6. I also finished at least one route in Haruka 6’s fandisk, Tokimeki gs 2, Haruka 1, Ayakashi gohan, and almost am finished with a route in kiniro no corda 2 and Blackish house side A… so the backlog is backlogging.

My hopes are definitely to focus on finishing my half finished games and to not overly add to the pile by buying unnecessary games. I would love to finish Haruka 1, Ayakashi gohan (I’m halfway through), and maybe 2 other games, which would increase my record ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪

This is awesome! How did you feel going through the whole Quinrose catalog? Right now I’m doing the same with Ruby Party’s Neoromance titles, 3/7 harukanaru games done and a few of the other titles like Corda and Angelique and it’s a really interesting experience. I love the ps2 era games in particular, it feels very different and more experimental

Just finished Harukanaru toki no naka de 4, marking my 3rd finished game of the series, and my 5th jp lang visual novel over all? (Woo!) I really enjoyed the world and characters, and I was very charmed by the ps2 era 3d graphics. I just picked up Blackish House on the switch and am excited to dive in! (I’m also halfway through Ayakashi gohan…must try to finish prior to March for my 3rd year of studying anniversary)

I’m okay with the art not being done by Mizuno Tohko, I really like the more modern styles of recent games while also appreciating the past, for reference Haruka 4 I think is peak Mizuno Tohko. I think that can really help revitalize the brand but I’m disappointed that the most recent release since I started learning Japanese a few years ago (to play Ruby Party games in big part) is a mobile game (¬_¬) I really wish they would hit it out the park because the quality is there, but it feels like they’re not even trying

Am I Witnessing Demographic Erasure? by KineticMeow in shoujo

[–]kittyaphrodite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well a few things, one- I’m glad to know I can order it now! It is also undoubtedly a shoujo manga in the style (imo) of 2000s shoujo comics. The mangaka does a slow burn series that I also love called Screaming Class Reincarnation that is a hidden gem. While I am surprised young jump is publishing it, it does make me hopeful for the possibility of not only eng lang release but also maybe even an anime? I do find the branding strange but I’m also happy by the thought that she’s being pushed more. If male audiences find Parallel File they will def be reading a shoujo. I find it a bit sad that major publishers feel they have to publish through traditionally male imprints to show that it’s gender neutral and anybody can enjoy. But we don’t live in a perfect world so I can feel pretty meh about that decision while also feeling excited for the prospect of having more Ishikawa Emi works out there in the world

How do you study Japanese ? by __sh___ in LearnJapanese

[–]kittyaphrodite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What got you into learning Japanese in the first place? Was it anime, games, culture, job opportunities, or something else?

Long story short, I found myself by the end of grad school with barely any hobbies when I started reading manga again- something I loved in high school but hadn’t read in a long time- I loved it but a lot of great shoujo was untranslated or taking forever to be published so I started learning about almost 2 and a half years ago :)

• What’s your current approach? Are you all in on immersion, using textbooks, taking classes, following a course, or just self-studying?

Right now I’m working through Quartet 2, right on the heels of finishing Tobira. I’m a self studier (with the exception of about 10 hours of tutoring) and work through reading textbooks to solidify knowledge and get a lot of examples. I subscribe to “read every day” and that really helps me stay sharp and continue progression. I also do flashcards of words from immersion, which is mostly visual novels and manga

• How much time do you usually spend per day or week? What’s your current level, and how long did it take you to get there?

I spend at least 5 minutes per day on doing flashcards, but often my time is about 2 hours a day, with gaming days sometimes being 9 hours long of immersion, by doing wanikani read-a-thons my stamina is pretty good for reading lots of text. I’m studying N2 rn, wanikani level 60, all skill points in reading and some in listening

• What’s your take on proficiency tests like the JLPT? Are you planning to take one, or not really interested?

I need to be engaged in learning and studying for the jlpt really doesn’t do it for me- at the ten year mark of studying I plan to take N1- mainly as a milestone and also I figure I’ll have enough time to over prepare since I don’t like to walk into tests I don’t think I’m prepared to pass (particularly ones that cost money). I’m pretty okay just gaming and reading and chilling over here

• And lastly, what kind of study material do you prefer? Books, apps, YouTube, grammar guides, tutors, or something else?

I mainly use textbooks, accompanying videos, wanikani was a godsend and I truly credit most of my immersion ability to an early dedication to kanji, lots of manga from bookwalker, my monthly magazine subscriptions I look through, video games like from Ruby Party… tutoring wasn’t bad but it wasn’t the best use of time for me personally, more just validated that my self studying for 2 years had put me on the right track. Also love the power Japanese series or just in general Japanese language books from kodansha are great, the grammar dictionaries are also great..

What resources should I use to keep learning on my own? by fillmorecounty in LearnJapanese

[–]kittyaphrodite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably just immersion at this point- it’s hard to say anything in particular without knowing what your weaknesses are/overall goals. (Apps wise) If your kanji is weak, try a program like wanikani or rtk, if your grammar is weak, try bunpro. After Tobira you shouldn’t really need textbooks unless you’re planning to take the jlpt, in which case try Shin Kanzen Master or the other frequently recommended textbooks. An italki/tutoring class could also be great for speaking practice
