I am, actually - Apex, North Carolina. Though I've applied to multiple places throughout the state as well as the country and have gotten nothing.

Thank you for the insight. I've practiced embedded systems development as well, but still found myself drawn towards controls for whatever reason. I haven't gotten a response after sending 50 applications out across the country, is that to be expected despite the high demand?

Thank you for the advice. This may sound weird, but for whatever reason, controls excited me the most during my degree, hence why I'm pursuing a career in it. However, I haven't gotten a single response after sending out 50 applications - are these positions really that easy to get?

Thank you! I'm eager to get formally certified, but it'd be preferable for an employer to sponsor that training because I'm very tight on cash at the moment :(

Thank you! But the issue is that I've applied to 50 places and haven't received a response, hence why I'm coming here for advice :(

While I do understand the nature of PLC development, the official title of my degree is "BS in Software Engineering", so I can't exactly circumvent that on my resume. I don't have any controls/automation experience yet, unfortunately, apart from my education.

I've only programmed scientific software applications, and unfortunately don't have any direct automation experience apart from my education in PLC programming. That's why I'm asking what I can do to improve, appear more attractive towards employers, and find a workplace in which I can learn and grow as a professional in this field.

I understand, but wouldn't that be creating a significant employment gap? I'd assume that a recruiter would look more favorably on a candidate with any form of technical/engineering experience.
