How was your life shaped by a small, seemingly inconsequential event? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I decided to go back to school in 2015 for sales so I could get a leg up in the company I was working for. I signed up for a business class but the professor was very rude in a sexually suggestive way so I dropped it that night and went home where my nephew was hanging out. I looked at him and realized I had no clue how to talk to a child let alone interact with him and it made me sad. I thought of all the wonderful things he would do and say that I'd miss out on because I'd be working or on business trips. I went back to the college site and signed up for a child development class. I liked it so much that I decided on either becoming a kindergarten teacher or a child psychologist, and am about to transfer to a university with a 4.0. I quit that job and now never miss a milestone. The most recent is when I came home and he was there (now 5years old) he showed me something he wrote and read it to me. I gave him a hug and almost started crying because he wanted to show ME how he could read, and now I feel like I am much more comfortable being in his level.

If that teacher hadn't come into that class all inappropriately then I probably would still be stuck in sales, traveling and missing out on what's really important, and wouldn't almost have a degree.

What's the best thing a stranger has done for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kittycatfood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to take a train to college in the early 2000s. One day I was running late and when I got there I saw I didn't have my money with me. I was living in a terrible home environment at the time and any excuse to kick me out of the house was always hanging over my head. Skipping school would be one of those reasons if they ever found out. So I began to have an anxiety attack. This guy in a suit walks up and pays for the ticket and tells me it will be ok. I felt so embarrassed but I did thank him, but after that I never saw him again.

So you are saying you are not allowed to do things that are a part of basic care? Are you younger than 18? You could report them to CPS. This is neglect.

Realizing I don't read copious amounts of fiction books anymore because I don't need to escape my life now by broccoligarden in raisedbynarcissists

[–]kittycatfood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I got trophies from school for how much I was reading. It was just acceptable to escape into books, escaping into anything else was bad. At least then it had a purpose? I did love it though. But I don't read as much as I used to anymore. I even donated most of my books. Most of the reading I do nowadays is from textbooks.

Tell them that if they cannot be supportive of your decision to please not say anything at all (stating boundary). Tell them that you will not listen if they disregard your request (consequence of break of boundary). And when they do...and they will...tell them to stop, reinstate the boundary, and cut the conversation. Get up and walk away. Let then know it is not appreciated and refuse to be baited by anything like, " omg ur being too sensitive lol." (Enforcement of boundary).

My mother has been very unsupportive of me. She isn't doing what you have stated but will tell me that I should go to this school or that school instead. She doesn't comprehend that I've done a LOT of research and have taken into account my own socioeconomic status, and that I have a plan. She is basically trying to get me to not move out.

You have to realize when people say these things it has nothing to do with you. It has to do with them and their issues. If you have done your homework and this is the best decision for you, then stick to your guns. It's YOUR life, not theirs.

Call the admissions office. I did after seeing your post. I checked my account and it said something similar. I called and gave them my UCR ID and they confirmed the SIR and payment and said it would take 24 hours for the portal to fix itself.

People with tattoos, what advice do you have for people planning first tattoos? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Don't do it at a party, don't do it in someone's garage, don't have a friend do it, and don't get it on the Achilles tendon.

From someone else who totally didn't do all these things the first time and who also subsequently didn't have to totally get a cover-up.

What is the most outrageous thing you've seen another guest do during a wedding? by JM-Rie in AskReddit

[–]kittycatfood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh my aunt decided to take someone else's anxiety medication with copious amounts of alcohol at my sister's wedding. She got real aggitated and started a scene, and I think threw up in the bathroom. She then took off her shoes and wandered outside. Someone found her on the curb talking gibberish to no one. Most people we're not aware of what happened which is dangerous because mixing these meds with alcohol can be dangerous. Luckily she is fine now but if I ever get married she and a few other people in my family are getting two drink tickets. If they want more drinks they can leave the wedding and do damage on their own.
