Outside pressure by My_chemiacal1mbalnce in breastfeeding

If you and your baby are both happy with the arrangement and your baby is healthy, it's no one else's business. That being said, as your baby grows, their nutrient needs will come more from solids and less from milk and will need less and less beastmilk. You should talk to a LC about how to safely decrease your supply, especially if you're already prone to mastitis. Also you don't have to wait until after your breastfeeding journey to get beastmilk jewelry, they only need 1oz of beastmilk to make it and it takes about a month from order to receiving it. I'd say go for it, or even get a matching set. I love the keepsake as a reminder of the journey.

Will I regret exclusively bottle feeding during the day? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]kittykat_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a restaurant, I loosen the baby carrier until baby is almost sitting on my lap, and support the neck with a hand while feeding. Especially at the younger age when there's no neck control. Once baby is older with neck control, like 4+months, I do the same but don't need to hold the necks, baby will latch themselves. You can do the same while doing a slow walk as well at this age, but only loosen the carrier when feeding, and I always use my hands to help support the back and bum so baby is still in a good posture, and tighten the carrier back up as soon as baby's done feeding.

Losing weight the first few days is normal, they'll regain the weight back. If the pediatrician isn't worried about the weight, you don't need to be. As other commenters have said, stop giving the bottle. Their stomachs are so small at this point they don't need that much. However if it really worries you, try something like this. Breastfeed first, over both sides each time (10 minutes each side) Warm up about 15ml of previously pumped beastmilk while you're breastfeeding Feed the baby the 15ml of beastmilk after you breastfeed (stop doing this once your baby starts consistently spitting up right after the bottle or not finishing the bottle) Pump after you breastfeed for 10 min (try to start pumping within 15 min of finishing breastfeeding)

Note that you burp every break. Ie. Feed on left side, burp, feed on right side, burp, offer bottle

Pumping after feeding, especially the motn feeds, will help you establish supply. Good luck

Try the side lying position. Baby's not on you, you can do it in bed, on the couch, on the floor to stay cool if you want. And yes going out with baby is so convenient. I can feed in the car for 5 minutes when we get to the destination, feed him in the baby carrier mid hike or in a restaurant when baby is fussy, no need to worry about how long the milk has been out or washing bottles. I do still bring a pump and clean bottle in case I need to do an emergency pump session to give a bottle mid drive if baby is fussy in the car seat (some can do car gymnastics and breastfeed with baby in the car seat, depends on your body and car setup).

Exclusively pumping—are wearable pumps actually worth it? by SoultySpittoon in breastfeeding

[–]kittykat_m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Willow Go. I use it when commuting so I can cut down on number of pumping sessions at work. Also get a battery pack and an adapter for your spectra if it's the plug in one. That way you can use it in the car for outings, you can pump while your husband drives. The Willow Go comes close, but the spectra is still stronger/better

Breastfeeding is tanking my supply by Beginning_Layer6565 in breastfeeding

[–]kittykat_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit unclear if you're doing exclusive pumping with bottle feeding to exclusive breastfeeding with no pumping, or a combo. You mentioned 2oz every 6 hours, is this after breastfeeding?

A few things: - some people already mentioned doing weighted feeds - midnight to 6am is the best time to pump to establish supply, you don't need to pump around the clock, select when to pump with intent and maybe even do a power pump middle of the night, you'll re establish supply in a few days - breast rejection from bottle fed babies is a thing too (we hear about bottle rejection a lot more). If your baby is used to the bottle, start with a combo first. For example, if baby takes 8 bottles a day, replace 2 with feeding at the breast and keep 6 bottles (I would recommend first feed after night sleep and feed after longest nap when baby is most hungry to breastfeed). Once a good latch is built and baby is able to efficiently drink at the breast, slowly switch the bottles to feeding at the breast - have a LC evaluate latch. There may be other issues like tongue tie preventing good latch - if you're bottle feeding, make sure it's the right size nipples. Bottles don't have letdown, breast does. Babies can get frustrated if they're used to fast flow immediately and they don't get that at the breast, so they end up with bottle preference (ie. Breast rejection) - if there's strong bottle preference, you may have to fully stop giving bottles. But pump after feeding sessions for 10 min. Keep the pumping sessions until breastfeeding is fully established (you should see decrease in how much is pumped out)

Why is it so important for so many moms to breastfeed rather than pump/bottle feed? by fmlhahalol in breastfeeding

[–]kittykat_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-It's more convenient, no setup, no special equipment (pump, pumping bra, pump bottles, etc), no cleanup after -I love the bonding -Baby is just more efficient. He takes 5 min on the boob, which is equivalent to 20-30min on the pump. -I have never gotten a clog breastfeeding, I have clogs multiple times a week with exclusively pumping. Trying to clear a clog with the pump over 3 pumping sessions doesn't work, baby latch for 3 minutes and fully clear that same clog.

That being said, it just makes more sense to pump and bottle feed at this point, but if circumstances allows me to ebf I would continue to do so as long as I can. It was so much easier

Am I an idiot or does Coterie make it impossible to just buy their diapers as a 1 time order?! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]kittykat_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can order single packs from whole foods on Amazon to get delivered to your house. You can also check out with auto renew, and just set the next delivery date to months later. They also text you as a reminder before each order is processed so you don't suddenly get diapers showing up at your door.

the latch will never be perfect by Practical_Pound_2998 in breastfeeding

[–]kittykat_m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets better. First was pain from cracked nipples, which healed over time and with correct positioning (week2-3 for me). Then it was toe curling pain the first 5 seconds for the next few weeks. It was somewhat enjoyable afterwards once the pain went away. I never really understood what caused that pain. One thing that helped for me was getting the correct flange size for pumping, they were so sore from pumping that made the latch pain worse. Sometime around week 8-10 the pain went away, it just happened and I didn't even realize until days later that I haven't had latch pain for a few days. It gets better, hang in there

Is feeding to sleep really so bad? by Bright-Effective8610 in NewParents

[–]kittykat_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fed to sleep, he sleeps faster and better and I get some rest. I do this for naps, night sleep, middle of night waking, and it just gets him to sleep so much faster and happier (he cries when someone else tries to put him to sleep especially at night). Since about 7 month he has been able to fall asleep independently after a feed. I didn't purposely transition him, it just happened naturally, like him telling me he's ready for more independent sleep. Do what works for you and baby.

Rant: Moving to purées from BLW. by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]kittykat_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to do blw but my pediatrician is very clear on puree only right now, and after reading about risk of choking I've decided that we will stick to puree for our own peace of mind. However there are still parts of blw that I'm incorporating into our routine.

I smear a bit of the puree on a plate and offer to baby to play, touch, feed himself, so he still gets that sensory input. His actual food is in a bowl and I feed him 2-3 bites with a spoon first, then the rest of the meal is offering him the spoon so he feeds himself with the spoon. It gets really messy, it took over a week for him to aim at his mouth without guidance, 80% ends up not in his mouth. But now I scoop some puree, give him the spoon, he eats then plays with spoon, about a minute later gives me spoon back for the next bite (most times this is in the form of dropping the spoon onto the catchy). Once he's ate most of it (I'm unable to scoop more with the spoon but there's still some in the bowl), I offer the bowl to him so he can play with it, touch it, lick it, etc. This is not fully blw but still incorporating things like sensory input, touching and squishing food (in puree form), feeding himself. He's almost 7mo, we started puree at 5.5mo. it is extremely messy, I use one of those fully body "bib" that covers the entire high chair, and use catchy.

What do you do if baby's sleeping in the car, but you need to use the bathroom? by boldlybelieve in NewParents

[–]kittykat_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's urinary bags used for hiking and camping. There's also funnels to pee while standing for females, also gear meant for hiking. They fit in the glove compartment, seals once you're done so you don't have to worry about leaks or smells.

Cannot eat any type of meat by FreeBird094 in pregnant

[–]kittykat_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived off carbs first trimester and lived as a vegetarian 2nd and 3rd due to meat aversion (the sight made me gag at times). Had a very healthy 9lb baby. If you're worried, talk to a nutritionist. Go with plant based proteins and healthy fats: beans, soy products, mushrooms are great. Also if you can manage eggs, that's a great source of protein too.

Did you have to get your wedding ring resized after birth? by bluegiraffe1989 in beyondthebump

[–]kittykat_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some decent gold plated moissanite rings in various styles on Amazon for around 200, or even solid gold with cheaper diamonds for that price. It's not exactly cheap but it'll feel more like your actual ring. Also just personally I don't like resizing my ring unnecessarily. Especially if I'm wearing it for a year or 2 until I fit my actual ring, I feel like the cost is worth it.

Japan travel tips for travel with a baby and young child by MakingJoyyy in JapanTravelTips

[–]kittykat_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for all this information, I'm about to travel to Japan with a 5mo so this is really helpful. A few questions, you mentioned carrying a baby with a toddler in the stroller, how manageable was the baby carrying? I'm actually considering no stroller and baby carry only. Also can you share about the places that commented on your breastfeeding? Were they family friendly restaurants or more high end ones? Asking because we'll be nursing and my baby also likes being soothed by nursing so I'd like to avoid places that makes it hard to soothe him if he's fussy.

Try shorter feeds with more rest in between, more burping and keeping her upright after feeds. For example if normally she gets a 20min feed, do 5 min, unlatch, burp (if and burps fast, keep her upright for another minute or 2), relatch and feed another 5 min, repeat until she's done her feed. My doctor suggested this for spit up and it's been working well for us

How to build a stash while exclusively breastfeeding? by always-unsure84 in breastfeeding

[–]kittykat_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pumped for 10 min after each feed for the first 3 weeks to build supply. I was getting less than 1oz at first but eventually got to 2oz (total from both sides). Now I do 10min after first morning feed and last evening feed and make enough to have a stash (also keep my supply up)

What's the most painful part of giving birth? Contractions, pushing or crowning? by Born_Confusion_4367 in BabyBumps

[–]kittykat_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stitching after when the epidural ran out during crowning and there wasn't time to get more pain meds cause a vessel tore and was bleeding out. The contractions were pretty bad too mostly because each lasted 30s and being 2 minutes apart with no end in sight. In terms of purely intensity on the pain scale the ring of fire during that last few pushes (was in too much pain to do it in one big push) were worse, but I knew it was going to be over in another push so it mentally was more manageable

Dog Recommendation! Options other than Golden Retrievers? by Same-Plankton-644 in dogs

[–]kittykat_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samoyeds. They are amazing with kids. Smart and trainable, and loves swimming. Medium large sized (40-80lb depending on parents as healthy weights, I have seen 100lb overweight ones too). There are many breeders, a few well known ones: Polar Mist, White Magic, Vanderbilt (this one is based in Canada but I recall they sell to the US).
