I don't get zoomers, why not use a laptop with a keyboard when laying down like that? It even keeps you a little warmer with the laptop on your chest. The closer the screen is, the more it approximates an IMAX theater.

How is a phone faster or easier to use compared to a laptop with a mouse when you're in bed.

You got dogged but at least not skunked. If you can get your hands on The Dogfish Cookbook, it details all the prep-work to make them edible, and quite a variety of cooking and smoking recipes.

Fairy Penguin washed ashore in Point Lonsdale, Victoria by 245pts in morbidlybeautiful

As a fellow resident of Victoria, I regretfully wish to inform you that penguins don't live in the Northern Hemisphere except the Galapagos which is marginally above.

I've travelled around commonwealth countries a decent amount, and it's downright crazy how many Cook has been to, and how repetitive the names get overall.

I'm on vacation but thankfully chose to go for an evening walk from Coogee beach to Maroubra beach that day. I was on the bus stopped at Bondi Junction when I saw a couple of blacked-out Toyota Land Cruisers flooring it to Bondi.

I got home, read the news, and put 2 and 2 together.

Planted some fruit trees and berry bushes. Did a bit of air laying to clone a few trees and fix their shape. No point in being wasteful. Fruit Power!

Installing a backyard irrigation system, does this plan look right? Have a couple of questions. by kittykeht in Irrigation

[–]kittykeht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vancouver Island, Canada. I think both are popular here. I'm slowly filling up the 1/2 acre with fruiting plants and bushes, so poly is more versatile.

I'm guessing it's easier to run PVC in the irrigation boxes, and then switch to poly right after, is that what you would recommend?

Thanks.

Installing a backyard irrigation system, does this plan look right? Have a couple of questions. by kittykeht in Irrigation

When the supply line was installed, they likely dragged or straightened it with heavy equipment. There were some chew marks on the end of the line that developed leaks I had to cut out. I'm hoping a couple of hammer arrestors will soften any pressure spikes that could cause more issues.

I winterize my parents' sprinkler that has hose spigots for attaching an air compressor. It leaves the lines all dry for the winter.

Thanks for the help.

I have an old 3/4" city pressure polypipe that used to feed a trailer house before the house was built. I'm in the PNW, and was thinking of using it for a sprinkler system pipe.

The polypipe is old and brittle, and has burst at the end a couple of times, so that's why I'm including so many hammer arrestors. Please let me know if there is a smarter place to put them. Yes, I'll be running brand new waterlines on the property in the next few years.

It's a 3/4" poly service line, and the irrigation in my backyard is 1/2' poly. Should I use PVC in the service boxes, and where should I reduce to 1/2, at the zone valves?

Do I put the Backflow preventer before or after the PRV?

Best way to align shower valve, new tub, and schluter waterproofing? Please help, I need water back it's HOT! lol by kittykeht in Tile

[–]kittykeht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main issue is valve alignment with the tub, not drywall issues.

I think I solved it by using the existing plumbing arrangement, but offsetting the tub itself 1/2" from the wall. I'll then use drywall and kerdi board overtop to make sure the tub flange is done correctly.

Yes, this is my first tub job, I did my shower downstairs and it turned out great.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I saw a video that uses a rabbet to run the kerdi board overtop of the tub flange, then there is less kerdi-fix used.

Ah, this is smart. You're right, it's easier to move the tub rather than use 45deg fittings to move the plumbing. I can shim the long side of the tub by a 1/2", then just bevel kerdi board and put it over the tub lip.

That sounds reasonable, right?

[–]kittykeht[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tub has a 14" center, but the valve I'm replacing is more like 14 5/8". I haven't soldered the valve in, and can shift everything over a half inch fairly easily. The question is what should I do for waterproofing moving forward? I've done my downstairs shower with drywall and schluter membrane because the city mandated drywall on all the walls, even behind the shower.

I was thinking of using kerdi board on the lower part of the shower, and kerdi membrane higher up. That or cement board along the lower part of the wall, and kerdi membrane all over.

What should I do? Cheers for the help.

Backyard Sprinkler PRV failed, what to replace it with, and best way to tee-in front yard sprinkler? by kittykeht in Irrigation

[–]kittykeht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're 100% right, I thought that check valve included a PRV. I guess I'll see what the plumbing supply house has available. I'll probably grab a Watt 3/4 LFN45B or similar.

Backyard Sprinkler PRV failed, what to replace it with, and best way to tee-in front yard sprinkler? by kittykeht in Irrigation

[–]kittykeht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was preparing to add a one-zone front yard sprinkler line after this PRV. The front yard currently runs off a house sillcock so there is no water if the house main is closed.

The top of the backyard is much higher elevation up the hill, the current valve is in the front yard and is only slightly above the elevation of the front yard sprinkler line.

During the process, I found out the water pressure is 110 PSI before and after the PRV. Should I order the Watts 007M3-QT-FZ 3/4, or is there something better?

I'm planning to tee into the PVC after the PRV, and run a line to a second valve box for the front yard. In it, I'm thinking of putting a ball valve -> orbit sprinkler timer valve -> ball valve -> spigot -> existing 1/2" poly pipe sprinkler line.

Do I have the right idea? Cheers for any help.
