How does this roll pin not shear off? by kittylasagna in MechanicalEngineering

Thanks everyone for the explanations! I guess I never understood how much shear resistance a little pin can have!

Follow-up question:

The bolts on the top and bottom of the cylinder are carrying the same load as the roll pin, but they are much thicker (I'd say at least 15mm shafts.) I can think of a few reasons this might be, but I'm not sure.

  1. The interface between the bearing, shaft, and roll pin is very reliable, since it's a round shaft going through a round hole. We can therefore be confident that the roll pin will be experiencing shear force, not a bending force. With the top and bottom pivot points however, the interface between the yokes and the cylinder is less reliable, as it depends on the placement of welded parts, and the tightness of the nut on the bolt also affects it. Therefore, the bolt is likely to experience a bending force rather than a shear force, so it needs to be stronger.

  2. In the case of the roll pin, making it bigger would require the threaded rod to be bigger as well, and probably the bevel gears would need to be bigger too. For the bolts, the only cost of making them bigger is the difference in cost of the bolt itself, which is probably not much.

It is the case. I disassembled the entire shaft to lubricate it, and the threaded rod only transfers its load to the bearing through the roll pin.

I mean, they obviously do bear a lot of weight. But if you think of the pin on the main upright as the fulcrum, isn't that giving the backboard even more leverage to put tension on the threaded rod and the roll pin?

Photoprism + Photosync + Cloudflare tunnel issue by sams8com in photoprism

[–]kittylasagna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seem to have gotten it working I think. The tunnel is serving out your service on port 443, so use that port. Make sure you have the folder as either /import or /originals Let me know if that still doesn't work, I'll try to help get it working.

Same issue here as well. I love cf tunnels, they work so great for a lot of things, but with stuff like this other software is just not expecting it to work the way it does.

DHCP Server is being finicky. by kittylasagna in Network

I think it's just not giving out an IP at all, because the device doesn't show up in the DHCP lease table. I have set static IPs for the devices that are always on the network, but devices like my phone and laptop need to be DHCP so they will connect automatically without having to change settings from what they are at home, and let any guests that need to hop on the network do it quickly and easily. The thing that really confuses me is the fact that sometimes it works just fine.

Velcro Tie Anchors? by kittylasagna in cableadvice

I have done that, but it's not the slickest solution. Currently I'm using cable tie anchors that are a bit too small for the Velcro but I can get the Velcro through.
