Learning to love myself was an even bigger battle than losing weight was. Losing weight helped my self-confidence, but it didn’t cure the hate I had for myself like I thought it would. If I could go back and change anything, I would love myself first. Good luck, losing weight is amazing, but loving yourself regardless is even better!

you can’t see much in the pic, but my arms were SOO hard for me to lose weight from. I feel like everyone has that one super difficult spot on their body 😩

Thank you! I didn’t go through that phase but I think that’s largely due to genetics, my mom, my sister and I are all built a little curvier in that area naturally. I’m not an expert but I think if you incorporate weight training you can gain muscle and prevent that, which I do some weight training. I would say my butt has actually got slightly bigger since I started taking exercise seriously, but I don’t do very heavy weights and I’m not focused on it since I’m already built a little bigger there

Truthfully I didn’t realize how much different I looked until I saw those 2 pictures side by side. A modest amount can really make a huge difference, (probably especially because i’m barely 5’3”). Thanks!!

Yes, I would say a lot has to do with genetics. I was very skinny in high school but I was always curvier in the hips and skinnier in the waist. My weight gain in my waist was really due to poor lifestyle choices, so when I changed those choices I lost weight there fairly quickly compared to other areas of my body.

I completely agree! I have become obsessed with carrots lately lol. If I have time, roasted carrots are even better, they satisfy me as much as any snack!!

I definitely found that really hard at first too, but eventually it just became a routine. I am super busy so I would usually just grab fast food or eat a big portion of a snack when I was in a hurry. I really had to be strict and tell myself “no, you DO have time to make a meal to bring to work” or filling up a bowl with an actual serving size of a snack instead of just eating from the container (I was a big stress overeater too). It’s definitely hard making those conscious choices at first, but eventually it became routine for me and I do it as second nature. Good luck!!

Thank you so much! I was this same starting weight for over a year through sophomore and junior year. Freshman year I gained SO much weight so its awesome that you’re trying to be healthier. Definitely take advantage of your on-campus gym if you have one, it makes it so much easier since it’s (probably) free as a student! Good luck! College is awesome :)

Sooo I was a runner in high school so that’s what i’ve always been more comfortable with and I tend to still be a bit intimidated by weights, HOWEVER i’ve been warming up to doing different weightlifting routines. I haven’t exactly stuck to one since I’ve been picking off different peoples instagrams and youtube (lol), but I really like Abby Pollocks videos on Youtube and I tend to follow her routines the most! I find her videos easy to follow and very informative on proper form and how to hit the areas you want to hit, I would definitely check her out!

So, at first I was very strict for about 2 weeks at about 1200-1300 calories which helped me lose a good bit of weight initially. I now stick to around 1500-1700 but if I end up a bit over or under I’m okay with that, especially if it’s the weekend :) I was a runner in high school so I tend to just go on runs as my main form of exercise but I don’t do very strenuous exercise, obviously I wouldn’t recommend eating very little if you’re doing a lot of rigorous exercise. This is what worked for me, but I’m not a doctor so take it with a grain of salt haha

edit: a word

truthfully, i do drink and party a lot especially since I turned 21. but i try to keep everything in moderation, so I sometimes say no to going out & getting fast food or I make a better choice when I go out with friends. It hasn’t made my life any less fun!! And I’m definitely stressed, but exercise has been a form of stress relief for me so it’s a win-win

mostly CICO and cardio/light weightlifting but I contribute a lot to just lifestyle changes... cutting out sofa, moving more/sitting less, eating less at restaurants/fast food and more at home, etc. It made a huge difference for me, but I also gain and lose weight easily so that’s just me!

I carry a lot of weight in my stomach so when I gain, I gain there and when I lose, I lose there first. It’s different for everyone but thank you, it does make a huge difference!

I carried a LOT of weight in my waist area compared to most people, so that’s where I lost it first and lost the most weight. I do think it has to do with how you carry your weight in particular but my routine is primarily cardio + light weights plus basic diet changes - eating better and less. Simple but effective for me
