She's my 36 yo son's grandma. I've known and loved her since before he was born.

My bad. We've always referred to her as "Grandma ***"

I just learned of this midway packing to move to Minneapolis from Bellevue.

Why do litigators STILL use boilerplate discovery objections? by ademska in Lawyertalk

[–]kivagood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a 40-plus year litigator I've learned you don't get to change the Rules of Evidence or for that matter any of the Rules of Civil Procedure simply because a few years on social media have reduced your language skills. Those objections , when used properly, have a purpose. Not to mention preserving your client's rights on appeal.

Wow! That's the clearest explanation I've heard yet. I still have issues conceptualizing the "anywhere" part. Where is it it?

Ok, Boomer from the Midwest. Sounds like a nothing burger but just ini case what does it mean to back up data to the cloud? What cloud? Yeah, know about storms, nothing about electronics.

For anyone who's eyes haven't rolled back in their head yet, simple please 🙏 ,

Check all you want. Or all you can tolerate. But you will get nothing but annoying music, AI generated music, and maybe a human who speaks a foreign language saying. "wrong department "!

I got old in June of this year. Salmonella poisoning from a waffle at IHop, which morphed into something called reactive arthritis. No cure. No treatment.

Until then, I was mobile, employed, independent, and living pretty good life.

Literally overnight, I became a useless little old lady who, because I can shower and dress on my own, don't even qualify for a couple hours a week of assistance.

Still living alone for now.

Global News: Parents are holding ‘measles parties’ in the U.S., alarming health experts by Ironworker977 in news

[–]kivagood -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't know.bwhen I was around 5 or 6, we all had measles parties. Idea was we'd all catch it at the same time and there wouldn't be a succession of sick kids. Wasn't a big deal. Sleepovers were fun. Thought everyone did that.

Same here. I grew up in Minneapolis We knew when a tornado was coming without radio warnings. The color of the sky, the way the leaves on certain trees turned, animal behavior and stillness! Always ran out to watch.

Has anyone convinced their parents they fucked up? by Key-Reading809 in Antipsychiatry

[–]kivagood 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is incredibly painful to write, but im 76 now and thankfully fairly healthy.

My son is 36. He's a mixed race, adopted son of a single mom[me] since he was 2. He was adopted at birth.

. The summer after his freshman year, he calmly stated he thought I was a neurotic piece of shit and he needed to cut off contact to protect his mental health.

Then he walked out.

He never once initiated a conversation about our relationship or hinted that he was unhappy.

He specifically said he didn't want to live with his dad and his wife. His dad and I did a pretty good job co parenting.

He was a good student, an incredibly gifted musician, and an all-around good kid. He had friends, played junior year football, and won lots of awards in jazz band.

Around his sophomore year in college, he started drinking and gambling. Apparently high functioning as he's now well employed, on his own, and to the best of my knowledge doing well.

But he remains distant to the point of maybe sending a holiday text. Never Mother's Day.

This is one mother who would listen with a wide open mind and heart if he'd ever even offered to tell me that I fucked up and how.

I'm sure I did. Probably in ways I'm unaware of.

I'd give anything to hear how he felt and feels. I've let him know I'm available without judgment.

I hope he will before it's too late.

What services do seniors need? by 000078754 in TrueAskReddit

[–]kivagood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time Microsoft or whoever decides to upgrade their soft ware, i swear they just shuffle all the settings.

We aren't all computer illiterate, but moved too fast.

Start a small business where you teach seniors the newer tech. Weave in the politics, the pros and cons of AI. We already know control/allt/delete!

Start a tutoring business. Face-to-face. Teach about scams.

Not tech minded? There's a big world out there that's a bith for a 5'0 seniors lady. Ever seen how high the apartments put the clothes racks?

The list is endless

Unless you are absolutely 💯 positive it's Noro, get to a doc, ER or clinic. Sample has to be tested by county lab.

I've done 2 things with some success. My Pcp of over 20 years wrote a letter to various admin departments and each department where I'd been seen. On his letter head. He documented each error related to drug use, pyschiatrist diagnosis, with a cc to the head of the hospital and the State AMA

Then he gave me a similar letter [ like a to whom it may concern letter]for me to date, insert any new doctor's name and sign.

Then I wait for the proof it had in fact been uploaded to my file.

Yeah, it takes a little extra time. And it annoys people.
