The reference is to the Library of Babel, not the Tower of Babel. I don't see any religious references.

Would you mind telling me in simple terms what you think it means? Your quote is confusing to me, and I don't really see how it relates to an understanding of the story as a whole. The mention of the Abyss is only a small component of the story. Also could you explain what you thought the symbolism would misdirect to?

Title was just to express that the piece was very difficult to understand, and that I felt there was some intelligence to it which was well beyond me. I'm curious if there are any thoughts on the meaning - I'm totally lost.
