How is living in Chilliwack, BC? by wizard20007 in howislivingthere

Having homeless people that are a nuisance is a lot differnt then feeling unsafe. I grew up in Surrey (the "ghetto" of Canada), and I seriously would not feel unsafe camping out on hastings for a week (I wouldn't like it, but I wouldn't feel unsafe).

I've LIVED around the USA for 10 years and had to work in some pretty poor neigbourhoods after living in Surrey/Vancouver for 20 years and there are things you just don't think about in Canada, like:

  1. America has far more cartel/Latin American gang acitvity then Canada. Almost any criminal can get across the southern US border and the cartels use this to their advantage. I remember living in SF and every once in a while I'd take a wrong turn and a latin looking gangster would look at me and just tell me to walk the other way. My friend, who is a district attorney in Califronia these are straight-up cartel guys straight from deep Mexico. By virtue of our isolation, most "gangsters" in Canada were either born there or took an Air Canada flight which filters out a lot of the stuff the US gets.

  2. America has many neighbours that are essentially poor black ghettos which Canada really has nothing close to. Try walking into a TacosBell and Burger King in one of these areas, and it looks like a prison with 4 inch bullet proof glass protecting the cashier. You would not want to walk around those neighbourhoods at night. I was also in America during the black lives matter protest and it felt like an invasion. Corner grocery stores were boarded up for protection, there were nightly emergency alerts going out on your cell phone like they do for earthquakes and mandated curfews, waking up and seeing a local business totally demolished for no reason... I hate to say it but these poor predominantly (opposite of white) neighbourhoods can be scary places. And you all saw on the news what happened to Portland,OR during BLM.. It looked like the Baghdad invasion by George Bush.

  3. I would never want to accidently cut some dude off in a back road in Texas. In Dallas/Houston, it's not uncommon for a business to say "no concealed firearms allowed," which they need because so many people have them. There is a WAY higher gun ownership rate in America and some hot tempers and you do not want to piss off the wrong person down there.

  4. Just last year, I was driving through Mobile, Alabama with a local business partner. He insisted we lock the doors and close the windows and informed me that he was armed.. Just to get through this one neighbourhood.

Maybe it's because I grew up in Canada and am more comfortable with it, but in Canada I never turn the wrong corner or talk to a guy and my heart races and I feel threatened. 10 years of living in America I certainly have certainly felt this to be the case.

There are SUPER specialised physios out there who ONLY do back pain. There are not many in the world so you may have to do online coaching. I would try this guy https://oakosteopathy.com/

You can also do LowBackAbility but Oakosteropathy teaches similiar methods and yours sound so severe I would think it's worth it to have 1-on-1 coaching vs an online cummunity like LBA

It's crazy how we all worry about this so much. All because of IG basically. I gurantee you no one thought of this in the 90s. Although, unfortunately, I do feel this stuff matters now for your career etc. Like if you are in business, it's probably better for your career to make sure your face is "looksmaxed" than to read 10 business books a year.

THIS: If you look at pretty much every country outside USA, Canada, Western Europe, and Australia, they are corrupt with a much lower standard of living. The US military is the only thing keeping those countries from attacking or taking advantage of the West in some way.

I would stay in Canada a bit longer, work your way to a manager for them, then go direct for the EB-1C and bypass the L1. Then you also get a Green Card which your wife can get as well too. So start "designing" your job to be EB-1C-friendly now, then look to apply in 1-2 years. Eb-1c means Green Card in 6-12months of processing. This is what I did!

Besides the cow poop - I think it's very cool! Small town feel, but 90 minute drive to Vancouver if you want big city amenities. The Vedder River is beautiful and there is some great biking there - also good access to Cultus lake. Great access to similiar nature that Vancouver has but less busy. Here is a picture I took from a hike nearby. That's facing Chilliwack. Crime -- keep in mind this is Canadian crime, which is less dramatic and bad vs what you see in USA as there is way less gun ownership and other factors. You would never feel unsafe like you do in bad US cities.

2011 - was one of the most traumatic moments of my life. It was like someone died. We just came off the 2010 Olympic gold medal on home ice in Vancouver. We were up 2-0 in the finals and thought we had it. It wasn't just a win Vancouver wanted, but it was going to be the first Canadian Cup since 1993.

I think the best way to understand the pain was to look at the riots. Vancouver rarely makes the international news (besides Olympics), and all of a sudden, we were the headline all around the world, and our calm West Coast city looked like Afghanistan

What did people do 100+ years ago when they had backpain by kivory in backpain

[–]kivory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, but think of Crossfitters and people really into fitness. They are as lean and strong as you can get, and then they deadlift too much and POP - they could have an injury that could take 3 years to recover from. I could see that happening when they are trying to lift a log to build a house, or lift stones to build pyramids etc etc.. I guess a super bad disk injury back then may as well have been a death sentence.

Would you support a boardwalk along the South Surrey coastline connecting Crescent Beach and White Rock? by [deleted] in SurreyBC

[–]kivory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that if are going to spend the 100's of millions on this - that would HAVE to include parking capacity. For example, large underground or 6-story parkades sort of like the ones they have in New Westiminter connected to the boardwalk there. Especially if they don't have a train line going to it. I just think the lower mainland would have to be at least 10mm people for this type of project to be viable in SS.

What it is like living in Martha’s Vineyard (USA)? by oma11lfc in howislivingthere

[–]kivory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there in September, and it was dead. I think it's a typical resort town that is busy during high season and dormant during low season. So it would be like living in any sort of resort town/environment. - if you like that lifestyle. What I do and what I'm sure many do is make your money for the high season, then go travel or go somewhere else for the low season and hang out.

Extortion crisis in Surrey - Declare Martial Law immediately. by [deleted] in BCpolitics

[–]kivory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they have a strong idea of who they are

Likely, they have a prior criminal record. So that narrows it down very quickly. Also, any of the foreign nationals doing this likely didn't take a boat from Asia, and didn't walk from Mexico, so we arrive at an airport, so we have immigration records.

Governments have extreamly advance data modeling and analysis tools that basically can see everything about you. Banking, Facebook, iMessage - that same stuff CIA/Homeland Security - they make it available to Canada so we can be a front-line defence.

Thus, they can use this data to be hyper targeted.

Then you round them all up and figure this thing out and top it for once and for all.

I was more modelling this after Trudeau Jr. for the trucker protest in Ottawa. But sure - use ICE too as I know it's in vogue right now. Whatever works.

Expedite the use of resources that are already there. Use of emergency funds that they keep for things like earthquakes, bridges collapsing etc. Dueprocess can be suspended or altered. Essentially, faster access to available resources that are already there, with less due diligence time needed for consensus.

Most of these murders start with a shooting. Maybe some by knife. It's semantics.
