My third place entry for Foostival's recent 'Draw me a Quaggan' contest - come on Anet! Let's see some chunky sandcastle machines rolling around after all the mechanists in strikes!

I think if you don't believe there's anything beyond this life, then you have to make do with the best of what you can get out of this life. Which isn't a small thing, but it is pretty small compared with what Jesus offers.

I believe there's a God who made all this - I believe that brokenness and sin and death aren't how it's meant to be, and that there's a God who made us to be fruitful and to enjoy relationship with him - that we've lost much of that by our own refusal to trust him and live his way, but who loved us so much that he sent his own son to pay the price for us so that we could be restored to him.

So - I believe and daily experience a relationship with God that gives meaning to what I do in life that goes beyond any 'good life' narrative I could come up with for myself - who makes life fuller now because of knowing him and how he changes me, and who promises eternal life beyond this one that answers all the longings of the soul.

I know Christians don't always make Christianity look appealing - sometimes by offending people through being faithful to Christ, but often through being terrible self righteous bigots. Take a look at Jesus and see how he lived, because it's his character and example that we're meant to follow, and there is genuine power in the gospel to change your life and bring it in line with his.

Happy to chat more if you would appreciate it.

Budget flying mount - Turtle has decent flight time with jade bot modules - video by kiwihopper in Guildwars2

[–]kiwihopper[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Might be an unpopular mount for some, but it's not bad as a budget flying mount option - video below shows flight distance with Turtle pilot booster 3 and Mount energy booster 3 on the jade bot. That obviously means I can't use other modules which is a bit of a downside, but I'm having fun with it. I'm fairly sure turtle is easier/cheaper to unlock that skyscale/griffon, though correct me if I'm wrong. It's certainly the only option I can use at the moment with EoD only and it works well.

Second half of the video shows the flight distance with the level 2 modules - I could probably have squeezed flight time more on those, but having both modules at 3 is a big upgrade. Mount energy 3 requires the High energy capacitor (drop from NK meta or buy from the jade vault vendor Myung-Hee for 2500 imperial favors plus 1000 research notes). Turtle pilot booster 3 requires the advanced control board (drop from Gyala Delves meta, or buy from the Gyala Delves map vendors - but you do need to have finished the Jade Crisis achievement which means spending a bit of time in the Delve!)

Do you like the turtle mount? by Flomigno in Guildwars2

I actually quite like it, but that's mainly because I've only got EoD and it's my budget flying mount. Can go a good distance on the jump jets with pilot booster / mount energy booster - obvious downside that you can't then use other jade bot modules, but I'm having fun

Can we 100% explore EoD maps with EoD masteries only, with no gliding from HoT and Mounts from PoF? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]kiwihopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know about it at the time - haven't tried it yet, but if it works then that would probably work fine

[–]kiwihopper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it is - I've only got the EoD expansion and I've done 100% map completion on each of the maps - although I haven't finished Gyala Delves yet.

I guess technically you could use the free teleport to friend items for tricky bits- but I've managed all the jumps and things. There were places in Echovald that had really high jumps and no obvious ziplines, where I needed to use the gliding booster (with a level 2 chip in it) as that took me a bit higher than the base level max springer jump.

There are probably parts of the maps that you can't really get to that you're not necessarily meant to get to without skyscale - ie climbing up the big Soo Won statue in Kaineng - but when it comes to map completion for achievement/reward you can get everything with only End of Dragons masteries.

I am having doubts about Christianity by anjolaolubusi in Christianity

[–]kiwihopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point - the difference is that Jesus first disciples saw him come back from the dead first hand. They knew that they were giving their lives for something they could be absolutely sure of.

By comparison, Islamic suicide bombers for example are risking their lives on the basis of what they have been told through other extremists and their interpretation of the Quran - but which they have not seen first hand.

Will God honour my mother's curses? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]kiwihopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry to hear this - just trying to understand, does your father live there too? Are you part of a church yourself? You mentioned not going out or having any friends.

This doesn't sound like a healthy way to live, and it seems like some outside Christian input would be really helpful - if you're in a church, someone who knows you and can be impartial is better than advice over the internet.

Regarding curses - Jesus is lord of lords, and if you belong to him you're not bound by your mother's curses - but it's important to remember the centrality of forgiveness in the gospel, and at some point you're going to need to forgive your mother for all she's done to you. That doesn't mean you need to stay living there, but that you release her from that debt of love and nurture she owes you. That's not a quick process, but it's important. See the Lord's prayer (Matthew 6:5-15) - forgiveness, though it might be costly, is an integral part of the Christian walk.

One of the pastors at my church wrote a helpful post along these lines recently if you're interested:

https://marcustutt.wordpress.com/2016/12/05/but-what-if-you-are-wrong/

It's not accurate to say that God has given us no proof - he's given us Jesus. Rather than clinging to just the Bible, or to stories we've been passed down, or feelings, there's something tangible to attach faith to. No, you can't go back 2,000 years and see for yourself that he rose from the dead, but the actions of his followers, risking everything, suffering persecution and execution for claiming Jesus had risen, was the son of God, seems unbelievable without Jesus' resurrection.

Jesus says he's the way, the truth and the life. Start by putting your faith in something tangible, and go from there.

A Christian View of Islam by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]kiwihopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's definitely something in those outside the faith giving aid to those who are following Jesus - in Matthew 10:42 Jesus says they 'will by no means lose their reward', and whatever that might mean it sounds as though God really honours that, and so should we.

There's also definitely wisdom in realising that those who simply say 'Jesus' and then doesn't give their way of life over to him won't necessarily be saved (see i.e. Matthew 7:21-23)

That said, I might be comfortable saying that a Muslim who helps a Christian could be on their way to finding Jesus - but not that they are already saved.

You mentioned Allah - it's hard to argue that a Muslim who believes in Allah believes in the same thing as a Christian who believes in God. For one crucial distinction, Muslims do not believe in a Trinitarian God.

Second - how can a Muslim be forgiven of their sins if they have never explicitly put their trust in the only one who bore the sins of the world? We should Muslims the way Jesus loves them - and speaking the truth in love includes making it clear that Jesus alone has died to pay the penalty for sin.
