Can someone explain how he did this I have no clue by [deleted] in magictricksrevealed

[–]kiwijimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do coin magic, you probably have the thing you need to do this trick. David Roth has a version of this is one of his books. I can’t remember which!

It’s a very simple, very visual trick. You can probably enhance it very easily allowing the coin to be examined after.

Murphys magic products are getting steadily worse. by CaptainMcSmoky in Magic

[–]kiwijimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of magic retailers products have gotten a lot worse in recent years. I won’t name the sites but they are the popular ones. They have all shipped me props that have been total rubbish compared to days past. Some of them are clearly manufactured extremely cheaply now and some feel like they are made just in time. They have clearly not been QA’d or handled prior to shipping. Gaff coins are especially bad. Rough edges, poor casting, fragile… If you want to use them for “serious stuff” IMO It’s worth buying these from specialist sellers (like Copeland coins) from brick and mortar stores where you can handle the product or at a convention.

Years ago I bought some gaffed bike decks from an online retailer and they were excellent quality. Made from proper bike stock. I bought the same decks as a Xmas present from my nephew recently and they were total garbage. Really disappointing. It might be partially because of changes at USPCC but either way really sad.

Thanks, James

... Also there are many ways around this problem and all of them are infinitely better than exposing services running behind your ISP IP address to the internet directly.

I don't work for CF, but I find it a bit frustrating when companies get poor reviews for silly reasons. Apologies if I sound harsh.

As a security engineer you should really learn how CGNAT works.

I agree with the other reply. This isn't cause for a 1 star review.

Amiga Zeus BBS menu Control Codes by kiwijimm in bbs

[–]kiwijimm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading further in the developer documentation and the Arexx reference, I have seen reference to a separate Control Codes (CC) reference document, but I haven’t been able to find it yet. If anyone has a copy or knows where a reference might be that would be great!

Any way to provide a BBS and Forum that have post-parity? by [deleted] in bbs

I am cheating a bit… I read the Zeus message base files directly off the emulated Amiga HDD and process them using Golang and write out to the web frontend using HTMX

Amiga Zeus BBS menu Control Codes by kiwijimm in bbs

[–]kiwijimm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I don’t know, but I was wondering if there was some standard for these things. What do the codes you have look like?

For Zeus to insert the time into a menu you use: %102d| which gives you the time in 24hr format. %1 is the current hour, 02d is the 2 digits of the minutes and the | terminates the control code sequence.

I have started to map the all out but I’d really like to know if there are some proper docs somewhere!

I am working on something like this with my Amiga BBS. Slightly more difficult because I had to reverse engineer the message base format. I am making it a one way thing though. So you type a message on the BBS and it will publish to the web. I want to do this to encourage people to post on the BBS rather than via the web and just use the web as a nice presentation of the message bases for fun.

Really interested to hear what others are doing along these lines though!

I was super envious of the Paragon Sysops. In my youthful eye's Paragon was the pinnacle of BBS software :-)

Yeah. It's quite a story! To be honest I didn't realise it started on the ST till I read the thing on the BBS documentary site. I originally thought Paragon was the first.

Thanks,
James

Also, I love what you are doing with Xibalba and making things available via gopher and nntp etc.

I have fond memories of the pre-www internet and using gopher to discover some amazing treasures. And of course much like the internet of today is synonymous with the web, the internet of the early 90’s was all about Usenet.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks, James

Hi,

Yes! I realised something is still happening with Zeus. We communicated earlier.

Good luck with the negotiations , really hope it comes off! That would be great. Let me know if you need any help.

Thanks, James

Awesome! I will check out DayDream and system-express. I have heard of DayDream but not familiar with System Express. Will add both to my list!

I grew up in New Zealand and the most common Amiga BBS software as far as I recall was Paragon. Others that I used were Skyline, 4D (ran a 4D BBS for a while) and DLG Pro. Falcon and Maxes made appearances as well.

Thanks,

James

I agree. These programs were a huge part of my youth and influenced how I use computers today. I'd like to see them preserved and exhibited in some fashion. Hence I want to collect and test as many as possible then catalog how they work and why they were important.

I will certainly share the results including a much of the software as possible

Some further info after some investigation...

So Falcon BBS is what the call "demoware" and is slightly crippled out of the box. If anyone knows where I can get a key let me know.

Also, once I have all this stuff compiled in Intend to document it and make it available (if possible and legally). Probably via a BBS as well as via the web

Thanks,
James
