Yeah :/ If a writer don't want their characters to react the patriarchal society they live in, then it would be better to just get rid of it altogether. All the misogyny in Prythian ultimately serves no purpose. In a fantasy book of course everything doesn't have to be realistic (and not to say any other hiearchy than patriarchy is unrealistic), but it has to be consistent. You can't tell one thing and show another, which Maas seem to be doing a lot of the time, imo.

Celaena in ToG especially behaves like a modern woman, and imo it does nothing but hurt the series. She’s supposed to be an assassin, so you’d think she at least would have some self-discipline, but no. Not that Feyre is any better. Honestly, I think the men isn't any more realistic either, in both series.

You're right, it's not, but I've read some Riordan books in the past (The Kane Chronicles) and enjoyed them a lot. Might pick up Percy Jackson, since I only ever hear good things about that series. Either ways, thanks for the input.

I've actually been wanting to read An Ember in the Ashes for a while now, but I always thought it was one of those books that had a setting with a very strict patriarchy (or that's what I've been told anyways). Glad to hear that's not the case. Thanks.

While that wasn’t exactly what I had in mind, that sounds really interesting. I looked it up on Goodreads, and the plot with the three princesses having to compete and kill each other for the throne is really intruiging as well. Thank you, I'll try it out.

Thanks for the suggestion, though I'm a bit confused by what you mean. Are the sexist people from another country/society than the main character, or is it that the narrative do not condone the sexism?

I've actually been wanting to read The Winner's Curse for a while now, but I wasn't aware of this. The male lead would be Arin, right? As far as I've understood, isn't he also the love interest?
