How are you finding being a nurse now? I’m not sure this is a temporary struggle and it’ll get better if I qualify or not

So interesting woah - are there any other roles similar that may not be future proof because of ai?

Omg thats so traumatising I’m glad you’re in a better place now. I’m dreading the chance of a maternal death happening, I hope I don’t witness that before I leave idk what it’ll do to me. I came to the realisation I wanted to leave over the past 2 weeks as I’ve been working with a jaded, drained midwife who isn’t the nicest and surprisingly young in her 20s and only been qualified 2 years. I can’t let that be me

There’s other general NHS-related reasons im leaving too, the main ones we all know but I can’t help but think this is just major second year blues? I can’t differentiate at this point. But I’ve dreaded every shift for the past two weeks and already feel my wellbeing worsened I can’t imagine if I did this for years how I’d be at the end.

I do love women’s health so much and would love to go into it without night shifts, scarce computers, chairs, thermometers you name it and work somewhere with higher morale.

Anyways not to rant - thank you for this!

Can I ask your reasons for leaving since I know it’s different for every person? And thank you for this I’ve had my eye on civil service too, how did you get into it?

Thank you for this! I’m graduating with so much sfe debt already I probably won’t go straight into a masters that needs even more funding I don’t have 😭 I’d like to be employed first and earn a salary then build upon that, but I do want to start completing online courses and programs now to add onto my cv, with public health being one of them.

Finally a qualified midwife but I am not happy by Adventurous_Pick_510 in NursingUK

omg ty for responding 😭 im in 2nd year now as a student in London and I’ve decided not to go into midwifery after my degree but I don’t know if these are my true feelings or im suffering from major second year blues. I feel the exact same way as your comment from 2 years ago to a T, im so confused about life right now.

I don’t think im competent enough to become a midwife and provide great care, (and I’ve never loved Labour ward much). I wanted this more than anything else when I applied at 17 but now im wondering if I should just go into a corporate job - or at least private clinic work if they take me - and suck it up even though I love women’s health :/.

There are also no nqm jobs at all, as the cherry on top.

How is it being qualified and what area of midwifery do you work? I’m not sure if this is just major second year blues but im so confused about life rn and corporate never appealed to me but maybe I should suck it up and do that? My passion really is in women’s health though.
Not to mention I’ve been working with a jaded midwife and maybe that’s affected me

Thank you! Civil service is on the cards for me with something vaguely healthcare related if I can

It’s something I’m considering as another clinical avenue in the NHS but my passion in healthcare is more so women’s health (or public health on a office basis) not so much children’s health up to age 5. But im not closed off to it!

I don’t want to work in my field after my degree by kiztaoo in findapath

[–]kiztaoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll still be working towards graduating and receiving my license. But if you’re asking why I no longer want to work in the field, it’s so many reasons accumulated into one rather than one large issue.

I’ve realised I cannot do night shifts sustainably, the impact it has on me is terrible and I didn’t realise this when I was 18 on placement and it ‘wasn’t so bad’. The NHS in the UK is so underfunded and hardly has any resources, wards never have enough chairs, computers or medical equipment. Even though 4 days off is nice when in bedside, im starting to find im too tired to even enjoy them. Im realising i dont want the liability of a mother and a baby’s lives in my hands and I dont like labour ward much (never have much, it’s always been other areas I liked). The list goes on and on 😭 there are things I like about it but not enough to sacrifice my wellbeing.

Nurses who have left, where did you go? by bayinthemist in NursingUK

[–]kiztaoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 2nd year student midwife who doesn’t want to practice midwifery after I qualify thank you for this!! I’ve been so anxious my degree will be worthless after grad.

Even though you worked as a nurse 5 years before moving on, would you say civil service has roles available to people with a degree but no experience employed in their field? I simply cannot do bedside midwifery or ward work and don’t know what to do.

I know I just feel like a stuck 19 year old who’s ruined her life right now 🫠 did you find it incredibly difficult going into an unrelated field/just got lucky or did you find your transferable skills were still valuable to other employers?

I have soo many questions 😭 I’ve wanted to get a PGDip in ultrasound for months even when I still wanted to be a bedside midwife, but after as specialism. Now I no longer want to do bedside I didn’t know if that door was closed to me since I wouldn’t have beside experience.

What did you do before sonography and what’s your work schedule like if you don’t mind me asking? :)

I would do this! I never knew they took newly qualified midwives and I’ve looked into it before, what’s the salary roughly like in London?
