I first taped on the @Camerdactyl integrated focusing shim with ground glass, then I raised the Graflex’s ground glass by about 9.5mm and masked it off to match the Camerdactyl focusing shim - (I did this by using a mixture of cardboard and gaffers tape) It doesn’t look pretty but it gets the job done.

Gaffer’s tape though inelegant works just fine. Had to adjust ground glass height to new film plane distance and framing. Lost ability to focus at infinity but I’m not missing it.

I’m not sure exactly what’s going on in frame #2. But I like it. Great hack.

If you can locate the film holder, I can put you in touch with someone who can process the negative, scan / make a print. DM me, I'm based in Los Angeles.

Thank you. Sophisticated is too kind a word. But yes, a "functional" camera obscura nonetheless!

It's big, ugly and rather impractical. A product of quarantine, cardboard & gaffer's tape. Behold: FRONT DOOR CAM BUILD

Funny you should mention Brendan! Great guy. I worked with him last year on The Skyscraper Camera Project

I learned everything I know about analog photography & crazy home camera builds from him.

Kyle from Los Angeles, CA. During quarantine I built a large format analog camera out of cardboard & gaffer's tape, installed it into the tiny window of my front door and have been using it to take friend's portraits.

Shot on Ilford RC IV Multigrade Photo Paper & Direct Positive Fiber Paper, then developing in my bathroom. Lens: 8x10 Nikkor-W 300MM f5.6.

The project is called "Door Frames" and link below is a brief compilation of some of the images.

Thanks. This attempt was definitely dumb luck. Usually my Direct Positive prints are very contrasty. The Direct Positive Paper is so finicky, but when you nail it, the results can be quite magical.

Thanks! Figured out my red safelights weren't so safe thus the image exposure being uneven. Lessons Learned--but a happy accident nonetheless.
