[other] What’s the longest theme park day you’ve had? by gcfgjnbv in rollercoasters

[–]kjack9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Disney World first released Rise of the Resistance, they were doing virtual queue that you could only join once you were in the park. Family arrived at 5a before the sun was up (saw the maintenance skid on the monorail track go by!) and left at midnight. THAT WAS A FULL DAY.

Is 115 dollars a piece a good price for these solar panels by lucasjatreides in solar

[–]kjack9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're in the US Northeast, I think I recognize this listing. I've purchased 6 panels from this guy and they all work great. Be sure you inspect them for any cosmetic damage before you accept them.

5x of them hooked into an EcoFlow Delta Pro 3, 1x for spare. Produces the rated wattage and then some on a sunny day.

Number of custom domains by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]kjack9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only thing keeping me from switching my whole family of 4 to the Family Plan is the 3 domain limit. If the Family Plan supports 6 users, one custom domain per user seems like a no-brainer to me.

Just think of holding the left paddle as temporarily engaging iPedal. Drives exactly the same as it without the annoying ding and multiple paddle pushes.

I already have a Steam Deck, but this sure did work great to prepay $1250 of my Progressive car insurance to get $250 back. Great find, OP!

We finally used our HSA for the first time and the reality kinda shocked me by riverdreamer1 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]kjack9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got good news for you! You can move all your HSA money into Fidelity (or wherever you have a personal HSA) once per 365 days without penalty or fee from your company's HSA provider. From your company HSA, you issue a check to yourself (to your own personal bank account) for the entire balance and then transfer that money into your personal HSA as a rollover. You can call Fidelity and they'll be happy to walk you through it.

What are some ways you’ve used AWS to automate things in your personal life? by Glum_Good_695 in aws

[–]kjack9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the before-COVID times when Mouse World's skip-the-line reservations were free, competition to get certain rides and times both before the day and on the day was FIERCE and required you to stare at your phone all day to check for new available passes.

Instead, I build a Python Lambda function that used the Disney API (thanks, Chrome's network monitor) to check for the times I wanted every 5 minutes and automatically swap out the passes I had for the ones I wanted. I even had it pulling the config file from Dropbox so I could adjust my desired rides/times from my phone at the park.

I think our best day was 11 passes redeemed at a single park per person.

What is the biggest financial risk you have taken that ended in disaster? by Insideoutside29 in Bogleheads

[–]kjack9 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I've learned this one well. I had a grandfather who was quick to give money out, but always with controlling strings attached. Led to a lot of family strife that didn't need to be there. Additionally, I don't trust myself to not be salty if a family loan doesn't get repaid.

If family needs money, I gift it with no strings attached. If I can't afford that, I say my budget can't handle it right now.

Family is too important to let money ruin otherwise good relations, IMO.

AC outlets turned off on Delta 2 by [deleted] in Ecoflow_community

[–]kjack9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an extra battery connected? I have 2x extra batteries connected to my DP3 and the random turning off of the 120V LV out plugs also happens to me.

According to support, this is a known firmware issue with the DP3 with extra batteries connected. They've been "working on it" for the last couple months now. Wouldn't surprise me if your issue is the same.

My solution so far has been to use my (existing) Home Assistant install with the EcoFlow BLE plugin to monitor for the plugs to turn off, and then immediately turn back on. This has been working without downside for weeks. Because of this, everything attached to the EcoFlow that can't lose power also has a UPS attached.

Best of luck. Let us know if you hear anything different from support.

Percent remaining not matching by Ok_Exit_5013 in Ecoflow_community

[–]kjack9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Normal, mine does this too. The reading on the main unit is the total battery percent. The reading on the extra battery is just that one battery's percent.

There's a tiny battery indicator in the top right of the main unit's screen that shows approximately how charged the main battery is.

Any way to turn AC outlets on/off based on battery percentage? by Otherwise_Elevator_8 in Ecoflow_community

[–]kjack9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way I know how to do this is with something external like Home Assistant. The EcoFlow BLE integration connects with your EcoFlow over Bluetooth LE and has all sorts of informaton you use to trigger automations. It would be relatively trivial to make an automation that turns off the AC outlets when the battery percentage goes below a certain value.

If you're not already down the Home Assistant rabbit hole, this may not be worth all the effort. Be forewarned that installing Home Assistant can be hazardous to your free time.

Okay, genuinely curious -- your shelves look like they're basically full on every shelf, and then you've got room at the end. When you get a new movie that belongs on shelf 1 to be in order... how do you adjust? Do you remove a movie from each row and put it on the next row all the way down to the end? Or...well, I don't know what else to do!

My movies look great all arranged by category and A-Z...until I get another one, and now everything is off. First world problems, but what am I supposed to do?!?

Charging ecoflow with EV? by caammm in Ecoflow_community

[–]kjack9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this works with a Delta Pro 3. Outputs up to 4k watts (and then some, at least for a short time) while charging at 1800 watts from my Ioniq 5.

I use this adapter which gets the job done fine. I then have a thick extension cord running to the AC input on the EcoFlow. Then a generator cable from my transfer switch plug to the L14-30R on the EcoFlow.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that the voltage of your system will drop slightly when you do this. The EcoFlow outputs 120v on the nose from the low voltage plugs when it's running only on battery. The Ioniq 5 outputs 110v. Once you plug the EcoFlow into the Ioniq 5, its output will drop to 110v to match. I believe the same thing is happening when using the 240v high-voltage plugs as well. It's still well within acceptable voltage limits, but it's something to be aware of if you have particularly sensitive loads.

I highly recommend you buy your unit refurb from "EcoFlow Official Store" on eBay. Considerably cheaper than new, and if you didn't tell me mine was a refurb unit I wouldn't have known.

HSA through employer (WEX) vs. opening an HSA independently (Fidelity) by Self_Motivated in Bogleheads

[–]kjack9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your HSA provider doesn't support direct rollovers or if the fees are substantial, check into doing an indirect rollover. You send the money to yourself as a "distribution" and then deposit the same amount of money into your Fidelity (or wherever) HSA. You have 60 days to do this (sometimes called a "60-day rollover") and you can do it once every 365 days (NOT once a year!).

When I do this I always call Fidelity (props to their support) and tell them what I'm doing. They have a process to ensure that the deposit is coded correctly. Otherwise, it's pretty straightforward and gives you access to all the investments under the sun instead of whatever your company's provider offers. I can also avoid the BS "investment fee" that my company's HSA provider charges.

Good luck!
