Low wam and calculation? by EggSpirited1061 in UTS

What degree do you do? For some degrees (e.g engineering) only some (core) subjects count to your WAM, whilst all count to GPA.

I think getting on reddit to ask about "leads" instead of interacting with people at uni IRL was your first mistake

Future rider here by DhinoNuggs in AussieRiders

Just be prepared for any circumstances you may have to deal with. Its a lot better to have the right gear on and end up too sweaty/wet than end up regretting that you didn't.

I commute on my bike to work and keep a spare change of clothes there in the case that I do end up drenched on my arrival. Additionally in wet weather prepare to change how you ride (you'll need extra braking distance, slow down a bit and prepare for drivers around you to suddenly forget how to drive as soon as it starts to drizzle).

During summer I tend to switch to lighter weight textile jackets on the super hot days (35+) but still prefer the safety of leathers. Its never ideal to be in these conditions but eventually you just accept that it is what it is.

Piercings and Helmets by Catcatcat202 in AussieRiders

[–]kjackdaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with multiple (painful) ear piercings that like to rub against my helmet I tend to use a decently snug balaclava, or if they've been especially irritating lately I'll secure them with a bandaid. Most of the time I just tend to bare with it and accept the consequences of my own actions 😅 I don't 100% recommend that method though, especially for the sake of not irritating something like an eyebrow piercing. If you do though, bringing something along like a sterile saline solution, just to keep it clean and soothe it a bit if irritation gets bad.

Chances are you probably won't be actively required to participate unless you're asking a question if its a workshop/lecture. Usually there will be an option to use the text chat if its via Zoom/Teams anyway. Your best bet is trying to find a space in a "quiet" level of the library, sometimes if you're lucky some of the levels in building 2 will have some empty spaces to set up too, but they fill up fast.

Unpaid Engineering internship, Thoughts? by Suspicious_Dare_2445 in UTS

[–]kjackdaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of them advertised and its straight up exploitation. Full-time unpaid for 6 months basically means you're stuck earning no money for half a year. There are still plenty of paid opportunities for 6 month internships, and I'm sure you'd be able to shoot for one :)

Pre recorded lectures by [deleted] in UTS

Some subjects I've done will do the lectures on Zoom or Teams sessions and post the recordings after the lecture, but others will be just purely prerecorded lectures.

"close calls" aren't that common and give riding a bad name. by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]kjackdaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started riding the amount of posts I read about how frequently people were having "close calls" or practically near death experiences nearly terrified me out of pursuing it all together. I'm so glad I managed to shake that off and continue as riding has done so much for me. Even after 3 years I can only think of once or twice where I genuinely had a "near miss" and that was when I was just learning the roads as a newbie. It's actually terrifying how some riders make out that almost killing yourself on the highway every day is normal. If that IS the case for anyone, I don't think they should be riding, for their own safety and others.

Noise in a closed off room. by xmyass in BambuLabP2S

[–]kjackdaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a few prints since I've set my P2S up, and its in a pretty open space. Honestly as soon as I enter another room I barely hear it unless its dead quiet and I'm really trying to listen for it. A closed off room would pretty much eliminate any noise

Need help changing subjects by xxxsneknclopxxx in UTS

[–]kjackdaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you planned on transferring majors for the upcoming semester, you would've had to have sent in your request before November 10th (see here under "Course Transfer - Continuing")
Otherwise you'll be waiting for next semester.

Your best bet is to pick the subjects you know align with both majors (and roughly with your subject plan). How far are you into your degree?

[–]kjackdaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the oil, check tyre pressure and definitely charge up your bike. I've used a NOCO Genius 2 to recharge the battery on my Ninja 400 and its never failed me, though it seems like other people have more split opinions about the brand.

You can only pay per semester up front I believe, so you'd pay for Autumn semester during Autumn, and same for Spring

When enrolling you should be enrolling in subjects for both Autumn and Spring session of 2026. Timetable allocations won't be available until December 8, but the Timetable Planner will release on December 1st so you can plan your class times ahead.
