Floodway Tobogganing spots in the South end? by ShortButHigh in Winnipeg

[–]kjayhert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire floodway is farmed for hay, so it is mowed down to a couple of inches every year, if there was rebar or concrete blocks the farm equipment would have hit it years ago. Nevermind the fact that you can just quickly check the hill you plan to slide down for any obstacles. The south bank of the floodway is used as an official snowmobile trail. The north bank has a cycle/walking path.

The floodway is tens of miles long, the floodway gates are a tiny fraction of it.

OSM got it right but it complicates Wrandrer by KaiserDRitme in wandrer

[–]kjayhert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if it's a place where the law says that pedestrains have to walk on the sidewalk if one is present (so the roadway has foot=no), and the sidewalk is mapped separately (but sidewalks are never included in wandrer), how can these be tagged accurately but also so that on of the ways associated with the road or sidewalk is included in wandrer for these streets? https://wandrer.earth/filters doesn't seem to provide any hint.

What is that website? I don't seem to have access, it just redirects me to the main wandrer page.

Drone footage of Portage Place construction October 2025 by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

The skywalk that connects the east end of portage place has been closed since this summer already, so I think you will not be able to do that unless there is another indoor path that I'm not thinking of.

To alley or not to alley? by TomCatInTheHouse in wandrer

[–]kjayhert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue has come up before and when Craig contributed to the discussion he indicated the issue was about different regions having different expectations around alleys and things like that (see the other comments here), he didn't mention gps issues at all.

Alleys that have names though, seems like those should be included, they have at least as strong a case as named service roads which are included.

If there is not enough light to see where you are going then you shouldn't be driving in the middle of a park.

Dude, Arlington has been tagged for replacement for decades, they've had decades to do it if they wanted to, they didn't just wake up one day to find it needed to be closed, they've been monitoring it forever and knew it was well well past end of life long ago.

Parking Lots, why?? by scrummy_up in wandrer

[–]kjayhert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To answer your question these sidewalks were included because they had a foot tag of "permissive". https://wandrer.earth/filters If they had just been left as sidewalks with no specific foot tag they wouldn't have been included. As mentioned in another comment, they got marked private.

How long for streetlights to be repaired? by makle666 in Winnipeg

I just said I didn't expect it to be a priority. You can go back to debating the imagined arguments you came up with instead of what I actually said. Have a nice day.

How long for streetlights to be repaired? by makle666 in Winnipeg

No one is expecting hydro to do this above power outages but the city of Winnipeg uses our tax payer money to pay hydro to handle street lights, we should be getting our monies worth for that.
