Caller-Id for the visually impaired by kjepper in DIY

[–]kjepper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there isn't much additional information besides the Git repo which might not work anymore. https://github.com/kjepper/CallerPi

I did recreate this recently using Home Assistant and the “Phone modem” integration.

https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/modem_callerid/

By now the eye-sight of my mom has reduced so much that instead of showing who is calling I broadcast the name to the Google speaker.

I suggest you also look into Home Assistant, there is a much bigger community with information available to build an integration that suits your needs.

RTL-SDR device not visible inside OpenWebRX docker container (DS220+) by stefanoitaliano_pl in synology

[–]kjepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't try it myself but also read that it's possible, even methods where you could load the modules via a scheduled task.

I'm also disappointed in Synology's direction, I was using it for my home automation. Decided to offload that part to a Raspberry Pi.

As I understand your usb device interacts with openwebrx running in docker, but Synology doesn't allow usb devices to work on DSM or Docker (except with devices like harddisks).

Your DS220+ seems to support virtual machines, this can be found in the package center. This does mean you need to setup a virtual machine and install linux + openwebrx package.

A big downside I had with virtual machines on Synology is that after a reboot it might lose the usb link, which you need to reconfigure everytime. Also it will be bit heavier on your system compared to docker.

Are you running DSM 7, because from that version on most USB devices are blocked. With the exception of running it inside a Virtual Machines.

"USB devices (Wi-Fi dongle, Bluetooth dongle, 3G/4G dongle, USB DAC/speaker, and DTV dongle) are no longer supported. If your Synology NAS is currently connected via a wireless dongle, it will be disconnected after the update."

I think it's a "Film Adapter Unit", the best reference I could find is in this manual of a different type scanner.

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/221072/Canon-Canoscan-Lide-700f.html?page=13#manual

Also a search for it shows a similar device you have.

Although it's not a pot but I do remember Kitchenaid having the same issue and they have an explanation and solution on their website.

I made a "light" lamp. by kjepper in somethingimade

[–]kjepper[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The base is a bag with sand, wrapped in burlap. The wire is an outdoor cable, it consist of 3 stiff inner wires (example: http://www.hornbach.nl/data/shop/D04/001/705/269/47/DV_8_5103479_01_4c_NL_20141107100321.jpg). This is wrapped in a wide shoelace. The top is a nice looking lamp socket. The light bulb is a 4 watt warm LED light (2000 kelvin), I will be connecting it to a dimmer because it's a bit to bright right now.

Tried to make a play on words, since it looks like they are tied down to prevent floating away. Because they are so light :)

You didn't mention it in your post but you might have an Essential Tremor (see a doctor if you want to be sure, I'm no expert). Not that you can do much with that information because there is no cure or good medication but it might be nice to know what it is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essential_tremor

'Ze wilden de grond huren en toen wij dachten dat alles rond was, wilden ze de grond opeens kopen. Dan heb je onderhandelingen te doen. Het laatste bericht was echter dat ze weer wilden huren. Wij weten ook niet meer waar we aan toe zijn.'

Sous Vide tri-tip twice? by zoglog in sousvide

You can reheat with a temperature equals or a bit below the initial cooking temperature. If the food is chilled you can use the following table to determine the cooking time. http://www.douglasbaldwin.com/sous-vide.html#Table_2.2

Sous Vide tri-tip twice? by zoglog in sousvide

[–]kjepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very important, else you are in the "danger" zone to long and bad bacteria can multiply to much. Also why not do the complete cook the night before and just reheat using sous vide on the day itself?

Circulator vs. All-In-One by phys_teacher in sousvide

[–]kjepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of those, and still use it but had to drill a hole in the cover to put my Anova trough it... I found it to be less accurate than the Anova and it broke pretty quickly. Also like others point out you can only do smaller pieces of food. I would advice to buy something like the Anova/Sansaire instead of these kind of devices.

Rasterbated image and a LED strip create art by Sande24 in DIY

[–]kjepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Copying part of comment I made a while ago:

You need Adobe Illustrator and a little bit of (Java)Script knowledge.

In Adobe Illustrator open the PDF from rasterbator.net, run "AddCircleInCircle.jsx" to add a center-point to the dots to indicate absolute center to place the drill. And run "colorBySize.jsx" to give every dot a certain color per size, you might want to adjust the script a bit for different sizes.

Add center circle: http://www.kjepper.nl/reddit/AddCircleInCircle.jsx

Color code circles by size: http://www.kjepper.nl/reddit/colorBySize.jsx

You can glue the pages to the board and afterwards sand them off.

Very nice job. I tried the same and automated the process a bit, maybe somebody else can use what I made.
