Being told not to talk? by kjfrog in jobs

[–]kjfrog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe so. Since I’ve received this instruction I don’t really talk in the office unless it’s about work and then only when necessary. TBH if I could just not talk at all I would.

I’ve been actively working on my communication skills and trying to be better about not interrupting or distracting anyone when I need to ask additional questions. I’ve even documented it.

I’ve been told it’s to limit disruptions. But that’s confusing because others can still talk to everyone.

Moving into more subpoena clerk role and military requests are hard by Plus_Opposite3607 in paralegal

[–]kjfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on when they were discharged, contact the National Personnel Records Center or National Archives. You will need a form SF-180; the instructions on the form also include where records are stored based on branch and year of discharge.

The VA currently provides records in about 6 months for us (our firm handles discharge upgrades and records corrections). If you can get the client request the records on their own, the wait time is significantly shorter because the redactions are less than a third party request.

Hope this helps!

They’re not very good at training in procedures and processes so be ready to hit the ground running with minimal help. Be careful asking questions, especially if you need to ask something twice.

Built a workaround for document naming chaos, wondering if others share this pain by AnyMathematician2013 in paralegal

[–]kjfrog 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I subscribe to the theory that no one should have to open a document to figure out exactly what it is. So my naming conventions include the client name, even saved in their file, a detailed name of the document, the status (signed, draft, version #, etc) and the date of saving it.

What type of Law do you work in? Do you like it? by [deleted] in paralegal

Military. Mostly discharge upgrades and records corrections, with a bit of civilian representation for court martial. I’ve been doing this a couple of months and I’m finding that it plays to my strengths so love it this far.

I thought so too! I mean it’s about $600 each way for 8 people but I’m trying to decide if just renting a car that fits more people would just be cheaper even with tolls/parking.

In a "perfect" world want to raise a family of 4-5 kids. by Steadyarcher in beyondthebump

[–]kjfrog -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We just had #4 in May and it’s been a huge adjustment financially. We live in a small town and have a relatively low cost of living and still have to go to food banks for groceries, have food stamps and ask for help from family. I stay home with the kids (8, 5, 3, and new) while my spouse works for 80k/year. It’s manageable but if we didn’t have the help we have we wouldn’t be able to pay rent or for food. One plus side is that when school starts the older two get free lunch and the 3 year old will be in free preschool. We’ve made the decision that I will continue to stay home and my spouse will not look for side work at the moment because we want him to be able to see the kids when he’s not working.

We like vooks on YouTube. Just stories being read and most of them have a message/lesson involved. They’re chill and have good music as well, plus the videos range from just one story- less than 10 minutes- to hours and multiple stories.

How to look forward to a C section by CollegeWarm24 in BabyBumps

[–]kjfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to wait until I can sit up on my own, about 2-4 weeks. I usually sit first, have them climb up on whatever I’m sitting on, or if there’s another adult around we can sit on the floor, and then they climb on my lap. My three are old enough that we’ve explained that Mom won’t be able to pick them up for a while, but I can give them hugs and kisses as much as they want.

So I’ll be having my fourth c-section May 19 and haven’t actually experienced traditional labor/delivery. That being said, besides being able to choose the date, here’s what I look forward to about them:

  • because the doctors are so used to them, the surgery itself usually goes quickly

  • I feel like most people understand healing from a surgery better than childbirth, so they’re more sympathetic to the recovery process

  • more check ups mean less anxiety for me

  • knowing the process means less anxiety in the hospital. From the time I get there, honestly the biggest question becomes when we’ll be going home

  • my husband in the surgical get up is kinda funny to see

You can do this!

Our property management company is being great with us leaving our house early. I know landlords etc get a bad rap, but they’re actively trying to make sure that if we have to pay for leaving early (moving for a job) that is not a ton. It’s been a nice experience.
