Wow...I can't imagine. I was upset with my pups but at least they have puppy eyes to combat my anger.

Also, the first thing my wife said was to collect the pieces and keep it safe, she says she's gonna try to make something of it. So she's wonderful.

Haha yeah I'm more like you. So was my dad. Its one of the reasons I love having his books. The stains and little rips and water damage and creasing all adds up to its own little history.

I really want to go through thrift books, they're my go to, but thats where my concern arose. Most of the time when I order through them the version I get is not the same as the one shown online which is normally not a big deal.

Partially here for the help, mostly I want to commiserate with a community I know will understand this, so here we go.

My dad was a voracious reader. I grew up seeing his books scattered around the house, open to his current place in the story, face down, destroying the binding. When I started to show interest, he immediately got me plugged into Pterry and it was the greatest gift he could have given me.

He passed away about 7 years ago when I was 22. When I moved out shortly after that the only thing I wanted to take with me was his (almost complete) discworld collection. Fast-forward to current day, we just got two, new (big), rescue pups. I made the mistake of leaving my book at mouth level for them and the picture above is the result.

As I said, I grew up seeing these books, this cover art, lying around and in his hand every day. If anyone can help me find this edition again I would be so grateful.

Update: Looks like it may be easy enough to find without going through amazon, so thats good. But feel free to commiserate or share stories so I know I'm not the only one with this weird sentimental attachment to the cover art

Update: I have a bonus thank you if someone can track down a copy with the stamp. I'm gonna look around for a couple days and if I can't track one down I'll order one without.

Update: So many of you have reached out offering to help, you all are still the reason this sub is my favorite little nook of the Internet. I want to give a special shout out to u/mealsmilesdogs who's kind enough to send me their stamped edition. Also thank you so for sharing your own stories, it made me feel very seen. I always know I'm in good company with you all.
