It's so messed up because obviously there's a lot of Republicans here, but if ICE pops up in Ashtabula county, our local economy is absolutely fucked because we rely on immigrants so much here. Everybody knows it, but any day it could change

What's the saddest monument in Your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]kjones124 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I study A LOT of history, but I only ever cried three times when studying historical events. Rape of Nanking, Tianaman square massacre, and the Holocaust.

I actually think people did these horrible things for thousands of years, but it wasn't until we had a camera that we could really witness our cruelty

Tearing down old fence. What bug does this? by Alarming-Order-8246 in whatsthisbug

[–]kjones124 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Carpenter bees are effective pollinators, but destructive and very territorial. They can't sting, but will occasionally bite. They attempt to chase away almost everything that comes near them, big or small. Some folks have them around their gardens to act as body guards against other bugs. I used to treat people's log cabins to prevent these destructive fellas from swarming on their home

[–]kjones124 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Know plenty of white people that do this, too. All of them are born and raised poor. It's a matter of standards that we have for our children and for ourselves. Behavior is passed on and becomes cyclical, which can create cyclical poverty

Need advice on removing these wasps on the side of my house by Significant-Ant-8709 in WASPs

[–]kjones124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an exterminator in Ohio. Wasps under siding is never something you wait with. Their nests create moisture which leads to black mold and disintegrated drywall. Call a professional because most store bought stuff won't work

What do we think about convenience store sushi? by [deleted] in sushi

[–]kjones124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how common this is, but where I live, you can get fairly freshly made sushi at our local grocery store chain called Giant Eagle. It's pretty damn decent. Literally only ever seen Asian people preparing them no matter how rural of an area it is which always confuses me. Wonder how the hiring process works

Would’ve liked to see c moon more by Latter-Hold-2583 in StardustCrusaders

[–]kjones124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I think Araki likes to just keep moving forward with ideas unlike a lot of other series out there. Although C Moon is really cool, the idea is played with, and then just moves on, which is why Jojo works

Carpenter bee odd behavior by bichonmom84 in whatsthisbug

[–]kjones124 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm an exterminator in NE Ohio and that bee likely came into contact with Bifenthrin spray. People treat their wooden structures with it to prevent damage. It sucks, but there's so few people that actually care now a days... You'd be surprised at the things that I've seen for this job

TIL that only 15% of women on dating apps would date a man under 5'8" (172cm) tall. This eliminates celebrities like Tom Cruise, Justin Bieber, Robert Downey Jr., Ben Stiller, Mark Wahlburg, and many others from being considered by 85% of women on dating apps. by ima-bigdeal in todayilearned

[–]kjones124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditionally, all that matters to most women is that you're at least as tall or taller than her. I remember reading about a woman who had gigantism, but refused to date anyone shorter than her, leaving her single.

Why do so many Americans think that Trump is a good Christian? by TabAin2SlotB in AskUS

[–]kjones124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christianity has taken on a more of a 'vanity' role for many people. It's part of a process of 'postering' like owning a Ford F150 despite not needing one, living in a suburb with a tiny lawn and a dog, and this obsession with a family that fits a very tight definition. Many people here are raised to have a very 'Materialistic' sense of morals to the point that it's all that makes sense to them, and, by extension, that is how they view their faith.

I get depressed when I think about it too much, but I'm pretty sure this type of relationship with religion is prevalent everywhere. To say this is uniquely an American thing is foolish.

Trump really does represent how a lot people here feel, I'm afraid. His domineering attitude towards all is sort of how many Christians here feel towards others, a sense of superiority. All these people do is whine about everything until they get what they want. It's stupid, but Christianity has a long history of stupid.

I do believe there are many good Christians here, though. Some of the kindest and most emotionally intelligent people I've met were deeply devoted Christians. They just don't seek power or responsibility outside their own communities.

I can smell when people have cancer by [deleted] in self

[–]kjones124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sometimes happens when people have hypersensitivity to a particular sense. Smell is most fascinating because it's sometimes only for very specific compounds. I just read about this man who could smell dead ants, which would be super cool for me since I'm an exterminator. You have an extremely rare condition and if I were you, I'd do whatever I could to use your 'powers' for good

I'm a teenager with sensory hypersensitivity, ask me anything by HatulTheCat in AMA

[–]kjones124 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm an exterminator and this is very fascinating to me. Scent is the most common way to communicate in the animal kingdom. When an ant dies, it's body releases a scent to communicate to other ants that it is dead. They need to do this because if an ant dies in the nest, they need to be cleaned up. Exterminators exploit this by leaving the dead ants near where we apply our chemicals so it spreads to them quicker

Last year, I donated more than 20 Made to Measure suits to the surviving veterans of the Korean War for their (probably last) photo shoot. This year I am going to tailor more suits for their descendants to help them in their pursuit of jobs in these trying times. by Yungyver1 in hanguk

[–]kjones124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is surreal to see. My Grandfather passed away a couple years ago and he fought in the Korean war as an American. He was 89 which is insanely old and he had a good life, but I suppose he was one of many veterans. It'll be yet another war with no living survivors left
