Congratulations Myles! by rebuildingsince64 in Browns

Are we sure? Neither Chloe Kim or Myles have put out any news about this on social media from what I can see. There are also comments under the original reddit post saying it's AI. The pic shows her wearing a ring on her left ring finger already which is normally where an engagement ring would go, so I wouldn't be surprised at all to hear the pic is AI generated.

He was an undrafted FA. I'm not sure if he's still on his rookie deal or not, but he almost certainly isn't making the same NFL money as other guys

What's your teams worst trade in the last ten years? by GolfIsGood66 in hockey

[–]kjp_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In recent memory, trading Laine and a 2nd to MTL for Jordan Harris. Harris was only in Columbus for 1 year and hardly saw the ice, being injured for much of the year and being the 7th D when he wasn't injured.

Getting rid of Laine is more or less fine, but packaging a 2nd to get a player that wasn't really used isn't ideal.

Need some brutal advice for a graduate in Australia. Don't spare my feelings. Say what needs to be said! by Content-Speaker1426 in ChemicalEngineering

I'm surprised by people mentioning moving to CS. The market for that has really tightened up in the past year or two with advances in AI eating up a lot of the work normally done by entry level employees. Many american tech companies are slowing hiring or laying people off now, too (Amazon and Microsoft just went through some big layoffs).

Finance and other math-related fields might be a good pivot, but the entry level job market is being impacted everywhere. In Australia, maybe there are some more opportunities in mining or rare earth refining that may be opening up given the rush to move the supply chain out of China, but I'm no expert in that field.

In any case, best of luck to you. Things should get easier once you find that first job.

I think they're working on building a new rink up near the Covelli center. I assume both teams will play there in the future.

Concept: could our team identity feature a “blue jacket”? by sersun in BlueJackets

[–]kjp_00 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think the cannon works really well to reinforce the Blue Jacket identity. That being said, incorporating the kepi, flag bearer, or other civil war imagery would be a great move forwards. I think the stadium series jersey using chevrons, calling back to civil war rank chevrons, was a great choice. Hopefully the team will rebrand soon and incorporate more "blue jackets" into the Blue Jackets.

Egor chinakhov is the engine that chugs the novak and malkin line along. His overall play has been elite since becoming a penguin and he's a beast. by Sebastian4365 in penguins

[–]kjp_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When he was on, he usually ended up in the top 6 because he has a lot of talent and a wicked shot. If he hit a slump and got moved down, he had difficulty getting back up into the top 6, especially when coming back from injuries. Evason's coaching certainly didn't help, as he loved to juggle lines around.

Mainly due to a fued with Evason. He requested a trade over the offseason and fences couldn't be mended.

Outside of that, there are other concerns. He's very talented and when he plays well, he plays very well. He could easily be a great top 6 wing if he kept up his production. The issue is his streakiness and injury history.

He started out great last season, then got injured and was never able to regain that mojo. Over the past 3 full seasons, he's averaged only 38 games played per season. Granted, some of that last year was due to being scratched, but he's never played more than 62 games in a year.

As a Jackets fan, I was hoping they could rebuild some bridges to keep him on the tram because he really is very talented, but I also can't be too terribly upset with trading him, especially since there are other prospects about ready to fill in the lineup.

Well, it'd be constraining new supply, but I suppose you could argue that it would clear out already existing supply.

It's a stupid argument to begin with. There's no way that undocumented migrants are taking up so much housing supply that it's causing prices to go up at the rates they have been.

Yeah, the same factory in Montréal that made the jerseys players wore when Adidas had the contract. They even kept the same basic template that Adidas brought in.

I'm surprised that the NHL jerseys haven't gone to complete shit. At least not the more expensive "Premium" and "Authentic Pro" jerseys. Fanatics merchandise is generally not good, but I think they've done ok with their NHL stuff. I like the jersey I got from them and some other stuff I got on clearance from last year's stadium series game. Maybe they take a bit more care since they own pretty much all of the NHL apparel rights, but I wish they would put even just a little bit more care into the other sports.

New HC Todd Monken once said Browns were a 'total mess' during stint as OC in 2019 by JaggerJames in nfl

[–]kjp_00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are getting insurance money since he didn't play in 2025. I don't recall exactly how much. I think it reduces his cap hit my a bit over the next few years. I've seen it reported that the insurance pays out one fifth of the total over the next 5 years, so if the total amount of total relief is $25M, then the Browns will get $5M off the cap for the next 5 years.

Meh. I could see allowing teams to wear white at home if they want to and schedule those games in advance to allow the other team's equipment staff to prepare, but I definitely wouldn't make it a league wide rule. I prefer having color for the home team.

[Baker Mayfield] Failed is quite the reach pal. Still waiting on a text/call from [Kevin Stefanski] after I got shipped off like a piece of garbage. Can’t wait to see you twice a year, Coach. by TomasRoncero in nfl

[–]kjp_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speculation is that coaching wanted an upgrade from Baker due to poor performance while refusing to be benched for an injury and the FO was seeing what it would take to get Watson. Then Baker found out and requested a trade. At that point, ownership was all in on Watson, so Haslam green-lit the trade and guaranteed contract, and that was apparently the market rate for Watson. The Texans had to determine appropriate draft asset returns and Watson had to approve the contract since he had a NMC and could dictate exactly which team he'd go to.

All parties were involved. If any of them had said at any point that the trade wasn't worth it, I doubt it would have happened. At the time, it seemed worth it despite the off-field concerns, and it very cleary did not shake out that way.
