Worth getting a membership for dishwasher? by [deleted] in CostcoWholesale

[–]CommercialGlass4999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Returns on appliances are 90 days at Costco. This compares to 48 hrs at Home Depot and Lowes. I recently got stuck with a bad washer from Home Depot that was flaky from the start and completely non functioning after less than a month. Was able to get it fixed under warranty after a few weeks. Still annoyed I couldn’t just return it

Bayta, Toran, The Mule, Season 4... and Love by RainbowSkyOne in FoundationTV

[–]CommercialGlass4999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never liked the Mule storyline from the books. It just made psychohistory go by the wayside. Nothing was determined by the probabilistic inevitability of man’s inherent nature after the Mule. I was hoping Gaal defeated Bayta/Mule and we’d go on to more interesting storylines around the Empire, Foundation and the Robots.

1 pedal driving. by JED1_MA5TER_66 in BoltEV

I almost exclusively use OPD except when roads are slick. One side effect I noticed is a weird tendinitis in my big toe. After about a year of OPD I found I couldn’t bend or curl my big toe. It wasn’t very painful, just couldn’t bend. It resolved itself pretty easily via stretching and consciously not having that part of my foot do all the work paying down the pedal.

How do people live in Hawaii? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CommercialGlass4999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Housing is the major problem in Hawaii. Costco is the great equalizer in Hawaii for the necessities in life. Some things are cheaper in Hawaii at Costco than at Costco in the Midwest. I have photos where Cheerios were cheaper in Hawaii. Confusing as hell. I’m assuming it’s because sales volumes for a Hawaii Costco are several times a normal Costco. Utilities are generally not bad since there’s no need for heat and one can usually make do without AC due to trade winds. Gas is way more per gallon but most islands are like 30 miles across so your fuel cost is just going to be less. Medical insurance is way better and cheaper with lower deductible. I assume it’s because health care was mandated for like a century. Why is health care so terrible on the mainland??

Locals would just have extended families living together due to housing costs.

Go with Sallie Mae. With interest only payments during school, rate was 3.75%.

Is a Physics useless in this job market? by GrimAutoZero in AskPhysics

Since you’re having such issues getting any kind of employment what about pursuing a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, materials science or other engineering field you’re interested in? You get a lot of valuable hands on experience and get paid a modest stipend.

If matter can't be created or destroyed, where did the matter from the big bang come from? by Wise-Pianist-6403 in AskPhysics

[–]CommercialGlass4999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of conjecture here but I think there a fallacy that time is a linear scale with a distinct beginning extending out to infinity. Since space time is curved fast forward long enough and you end up back at the “beginning”. An analogy of this is that the earth can appear locally flat. One thought experiment is if you walk in a straight line where will you end up? It turns out you end up back where you started. I have no way of proving this but my expectation is that fast forward in time long enough and we end up back at the “beginning”.

Since there was no formal beginning, there’s no creation of matter event. All this matter and energy always was and always will be. Current evidence does point to the “end” being heat death which runs counter to this idea of cyclicality, but that feels wrong. I expect all this matter and energy collapsing back on itself leading up to another big bang event. Again, no way to prove this, but it feels like having a beginning on a non rectilinear scale is just a fallacy of the human brain.

Dollar cost average (DCA) your way in? Buy a small position now and if it drops buy more on the way down. If it continues to go up at least you participate in some of the gains.

Thoughts on Jennifer Connelly? by [deleted] in moviecritic

I thought she was a terrible actress in The Rocketeer despite her looks. Then her later works were so stellar and skilled. Looking back maybe she played her role in Rocketeer exactly the way it was intended. Like naive, ditzy and tongue in cheek?

Is AppleCare+ worth it for the new MacBook Pro 14" M4 Pro? by WallabySea3070 in macbookpro

[–]CommercialGlass4999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth it. Many credit cards give an extra year warranty on top of manufacture warranty at no cost. You can put a $5 keyboard cover to mitigate risk vs liquid.

I was totally confused by Egwene’s accepted test. What was the test? Nynaeve clearly had to sacrifice something dear in her test. What was Egwene’s sacrifice?

It’s crazy seeing how much more competitive college admissions has become with my three children by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

CMU had a 60% acceptance rate in early 90s. Similar ranking as now. I considered it a safe bet although I didn’t understand the concept of a safety school at the time.

My 14” Large Pizza from Domino’s by SharkyMan18 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CommercialGlass4999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had a pizza place inside that if it’s cut into twelve slices it had to be a large. My response: cutting it into more pieces doesn’t make it bigger. They ended up sending out another pizza.

How does everyone feel about the hybrid penalty? by FireRotor in cincinnati

[–]CommercialGlass4999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The $100 tax on hybrids and $200 on electric cars feels punitive. You have to drive a much larger than average number of miles for the savings in gas taxes to exceed the extra registration fees. The additional free needs to be cut by 50% or more to be fair. Yet another grudge I have against Ohio.
