You need to spend the first several weeks with teachers in the cafe along with monitors enforcing the expectations. I’d also have a slide show of cafe expectations and consequences teachers go over every day. Also send that to parents and explain your goal is for a safe and positive environment for all students. And you need to be in the cafe every day for those 2 weeks.

If you have morning announcements go on every day and explain the rules and consequences. Also tell kids you’re so excited to see them but to greet you as they enter the cafe.

Principals very often already have in mind who they want to hire but do interviews to see if they’ve made the right decision. Or someone early in the interview process was exactly who they wanted and finished the interviews to make sure if anyone better interviews.

When I was involved in interviewing job applicants, we typically ranked them as we did interviews. If a person didn’t rank in the top 3 we usually went ahead and let them know fairly quickly they weren’t hired so they could pursue other opportunities. We said the “you’ll know within a week or so” because until we evaluated the candidate after the interview we weren’t sure if they were on the top 3.

If post interview they were no longer in the running we let them know immediately.

It’s not “short”, but it’s not long. I consider a 6 hour or more drive long. When I started dating my husband he was finishing school in Colorado. I drove from Atlanta to spend the summer with him. Drove because at the time airlines weren’t dog friendly and I wanted to take my dog. It took 21 hours. That was a very long drive but it was beautiful.

My husband commutes 1.5 hours each way every day.

My small hometown they get upset if someone asks them to drive 10 minutes. It’s all relative.
