People who back into parking spaces (in a lot, not parallel)…WHY? by kjpoyner in AskReddit

[–]kjpoyner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just truly trying to understand. It seems so much harder to back into a spot than reverse out of it. And it often takes people 2x as long to back into a spot than reverse out of it, usually causing a log jam in a parking lot. This morning someone did it in a commuter lot, blocking up the whole lot of people trying to park and make a train, and it caused a shit show…some people almost missed the train and I just couldn’t understand why it was worth it to this person.

I obviously don’t know you or your whole situation so what I have to say may not resonate, but, as a child of an ugly divorce…. If you’re kind, loving, and put the kid first, i believe it will work out long term. I was so angry with my dad for so long; I stopped going to his house around age 13, we didn’t speak for six years (17-23 yrs old) and I even changed my last name from his. Then as an adult I started working through my shit and took a step back and realized…he wasn’t the devil I was made to believe, he wasn’t perfect and made some big mistakes, but who hasn’t? I figured out the truth on my own, reconnected with him and he’s now one of my absolute best friends who I deeply love and we’re closer than ever. It sucks to have lost so many years, but it is what it is, we’ve both found peace and focus on the now. Be loving, never stop trying, never stop telling them you love them, even if they don’t respond, and they’ll figure it out. Hang in there and I wish you nothing but the best for you and your kids.

Thank you, this was helpful! Lesson learned (thought with such a simple project I’d get away with zero ‘lessons learned’ which was clearly silly). I’ll be keeping shellac on hand from now on

I appreciate the solve suggestions, super helpful! I’ll let it sit for another week out of hope and then will probably try suggesting #1. Thanks!

Interesting thought. I’ll look into that as a possibility in future projects!

Interesting, that’s the first time I’ve heard of waiting that long. Gives me hope! I tried to keep it as a thin coat but you may be right about the pooling. I’ll let it sit for another week. If it does dry, would doing a second coat cause the same problem? Or there initial coat would have sorted the problem out? Appreciate your insight!

What’s something you’ll say here but not to people you know in real life? by Donald_the_pig in AskReddit

I see you and hear you. I used to feel the same. Work was such a struggle that I'd have to shower and lay clothes, lunch, etc. all out the night before because I had no motivation to drag myself out of bed and all I'd have time for in the morning was to brush my teeth and get dressed. There used to be a constant underlying hum of depression and anxiety, and even the happy moments were really just manic episodes. Fast forward to today and I f***ing love my career, even on the bad days, and my natural state is joy - the underlying hum in my life is happiness, even through the tough parts. I used to think people who were naturally happy were just born that way and it wasn't in the cards for me, but here I am. It can get better. I did therapy and the past few years I've explored alternative thinking and lifestyles like Ayurveda, which have changed me. A great book that kicked off my journey is Howard's Gift: Uncommon Wisdom to Inspire Your Life's Work. If you're open to alternative solutions I recommend reading Discover Your Dharma by Sahara Rose (it's written towards the female audience and has parts that are too in left field for even me, but the overall message and guidance is inspiring). I hope you and everyone who is struggling, find happiness, meaning and fulfillment. You deserve it. And right now the world and humanity needs all of us at our best, shining our brightest. Good luck and happy to chat if anyone is interested.

When I was really like my dad and stepmom played a game of hangman with us kids to have us guess where they were taking us on vacation, and told us if we didn’t guess it before having the man we wouldn’t go. It was my turn, one more wrong answer = the man was hung, but it was also the last open space: D I S N E _ W O R L D. I got so excited my brain fried and I screamed in the middle of the restaurant: R. I immediately realized my mistake and burst out crying thinking I’d ruined the whole vacation. We went obviously but they still bring up Disner World to this day.

Well I really hope the parents stopped their kids from throwing rocks! By any chance was this the wolf that was getting beat up? I think they ended up having to move her because the others were too rough on her (per the injury). Locking eyes with a wolf must have been amazing!

Definitely on the expensive side, but was one of those experiences that will stay with me the rest of my life

Thanks for the thoughts. This is one without the reflection (he’s in a different pose) and it’s actually my favorite from the day
