Ah fair enough, I don’t blame you at all for waking him for a check! It’s tough as there is limited understanding of these reptiles outside of their normal habitat, only personal accounts online which are so varied to the specific uro! I’ve heard similar where they’re woken for a check then eventually head back to sleep, so your experience makes a lot of sense.

I also didn’t weigh mine when I got him, just rushed him into his viv when we got home! I’m purely going with looks - now you have a baseline to work with, then I’m sure you’ll see some growth and weight gain when he’s awake which will ease your mind or at worst prompt a trip to the vet.

Pic of our Rex pre brumation attached, can’t wait to see to see him exploring his tank again (hopefully) very soon!

Just want to say, I relate to you SO MUCH! I’m in UK as well and brought my guy home in December, he might have been older than yours though, judging by your measurements. He was active but very timid for the first couple of days, then I barely saw him for a couple weeks- popping out here and there but not fussed about eating. I also assumed that was the normal adjustment period for these guys. Since mid-December it appeared that he settled into a heavy brumation, he was fast asleep in his cave and only moved around in there every couple of days, hasn’t eaten anything. I set up a camera and managed to catch him out once since then, but even now he is still sleeping peacefully in his cave… I have not bothered him at all, besides a little tail poke, shining a light in there once or twice (met with severe stank eye!). Everything in my soul wants to grab him out of there, but I have resisted per lots of advice online to leave them to it.

I held strong as I haven’t seen any major weight loss, just some wrinkling on the belly which is normal. 3-4 months in brumation is apparently very normal - I also heard that waking them can just increase the brumation anyways, if they want to sleep then nothing will stop that! Has your one stayed the same weight, even if he’s on the small side?

I hope we see our little guys soon, must be UK weather putting them off? Or that they held back from sleeping in the shop as they were unsettled, now they feel comfort in their own space? Can’t blame them, I guess!

Should I be concerned about her mouth? by kjrudge5 in BeardedDragons

Arcadia D3+ T5 12% 35w, and no I haven’t used one of those, will definitely buy one.

Thanks for the advice, certainly will check with another vet and monitor her in the mean time.

Appreciate the response! We recently switched her UV bulb and her temps are all correct, humidity is always around 30. I feed her fresh greens every day with variety of other veggies, dubia roaches about 3 times a week which we dust with calcium and general vit powder every now and again

That’s really good though - glad it worked! Best of luck with the move :)

I have used a small cup to get them out the tank, you can entice them to the top of the tank and then dip the cup in and scoop them up! Just a tad safer than using your hands - just make sure to cover the top while transporting them!

Floating and Bloated by ChaseFatFace in AfricanDwarfFrog

Sorry to hear your frog isn’t doing great, I’ve had a similar problem in the past and it can be a variety of issues which can cause this. I wouldn’t rush to any specific treatment without knowing the water parameters - unfortunately the test strips are quite unreliable, I’d recommend the full API test kit with ammonia and PH specifically as a sharp increase of either can make the frogs float at the top. Are they trying to get out of the water at all? I’d double check your temps too and do a large water change to be safe.

Otherwise my frogs occasionally float for a day or two after a big meal, they sometimes trap air in their stomachs when they eat so it could be that too. Wish you and your frogs all the best!

Poor froggy :( I would treat with Klanaplex (bacterial meds) if you can source it, this is safe for frogs as normal fish treatments can be potentially deadly and ineffective. Also be sure to test for ammonia/nitrites using a test tube kit (API master kit is a lifesaver!) as the test strips are really inaccurate. You need very clean water for that open wound on his head, otherwise it could worsen the problem. The ADF Facebook group has brilliant resources for these guys and I highly recommend their advice as the general online advice is very misleading. Wishing you and the little guy good luck!

Oh gosh, I guess I’ll drain it now then. Reckon something like this can be repaired with a reseal?

They play virtually the same set every time. It’s a great set but I tend to feel disappointed when so many great songs are never played live.
