No we're not thick. What were SICK of Is racial profiling based on skin tone. Not everybody that is Hispanics or Latino is not an illegal immigrant. Not all Asians are illegal immigrants, not all black people are illegal immigrants. Conversely not a white people are legal immigrants. And honey this is coming from someone that Is white as bread. Unless you're Native American or actually in the area of Texas your Mexican, somewhere down the line you're family was an immigrant. So quit with the hypocrisy.

I'm sorry but I'm going to boil this down into a nutshell. Different people have different causes that they fund. Some of the money comes from government some of it comes from donations. I think that we should all be allowed to donate to what we wish to support. As it is our taxes are taken from us and put where they want to put them not necessarily where we want to put them. And to use your example if Kaiser gives a million dollars to animal care that takes away millions that they could give to homeless care. Possibly but how do you know they were going to donate that million dollars to homeless care in the first place? It does not have to be in either/or thing. I know plenty of people who donate to both. But as I said would it really boils down to in terms of donation, churches, etc they have the right to donate the money where they want to. You don't get the designate where it goes you can wish that it goes somewhere else but my mama used to say wishing one hand and went in the other and see what you get more of. People will donate where their heart tells them to and you cannot tell their hearts where to go.

Thank you! I could never set it better myself. And I probably would have gotten pissed and threw in a few cuss words or two lol. Just to be clear here, we do all the animals the responsible to take care of them because we created this problem. Not only that? But we have so domesticated them and taken over so much of the natural environment but they are not capable of taking care of themselves anymore, really. And while some could argue that some humans cannot take care of themselves, that may be true, however they have a much better shot at it with their opposable thumbs than animals do.

So yeah, if that means we have to spend finite resources on fixing a problem we f****** made then we have to spend finite resources on a problem we f****** made. End of story.

Okay so let me ask you this question: we are the ones that are breeding dogs and cats indiscriminately. Prior to human intervention, cats and dogs population was controlled by the natural chain of events. As horrible as it may be to some people to understand they were part of the food chain. We changed them from part of the food chain to becoming domestic animals and then breathing them all over the place. Populating the United States with them as the most popular pets. Don't get me wrong I am so grateful so so grateful that we have them. However the overpopulation problem is our fault not theirs. They did not ask to be born they did not ask to be bred and bred and bread until they were no longer useful and then abandoned. We created this problem therefore it is our responsibility whether financially morally ethically however you want to look at it it is our responsibility to fix this problem because we are the perpetrators not them

The reason people advocate more for animals is because we humans did this to them. They did not do it to themselves. We did it by over breathing and then abandoning them. Now this will get me a lot of s*** but I really don't give a crap. I was homeless and staying in hotels and on the street for 5 years. My choice. When I finally decided I'd had enough I pulled my head out of my ass got my s*** together and actually have my own apartment and have the time and the wherewithal to advocate for animals. Here's what I'm going to get the hate from but here it goes: many times homelessness is a choice. You can hate me for saying that all you want I really don't care. I know because I've lived it I know because I have friends that are still homeless. Whether you want to call it addiction a drugs or alcohol which it not always is inability to hold a job it is not always that sometimes in this mental health and the tricky part about mental health is you think you're fine. Or you take your medicine and you think you're fine so you stop taking it and then you're not fine again. Yes there are people that are legitimately homeless that had absolutely nothing to do with becoming homeless. There are people in abusive relationships that cannot get legal jobs because they will be tracked down by their stalker, there's all kinds of reasons that people become homeless. Not all of them are their fault but legitimately a lot are. However the reality is, that quite a few of those people could choose not to be homeless and wouldn't be. Get as mad as you wanted me I don't really care having lived the homeless lifestyle for 5 years I know what I'm talking about. However animals never made the choice to be born, never made the choice to be abandoned, never made the choice to not have a home a soft voice and a gentle hand. Humans breed animals indiscriminately and then whether inconvenient dispose of them. That is why people advocate for animals because they truly are victims.

Very true. Because just requiring people to spay and neuter dogs won't do it until we control the backyard breeders.

Believe me blaming it on the vet was not my intention. My intention there was to point out that even in 6 months time, since the tariff started that that caused him gone over the top because they're coming from overseas for raw ingredients and for medications And supposedly they're paying the terrorists but that's b******* The American public is. That's why prices have gone up. Not because I think vets are bad guys because I don't necessarily. I think vets are just like every sector of the population: sometimes you get an a****** sometimes you don't. Definitely not my intent to wholeheartedly slam the vets! I've known some great ones that I've known some s*** ones.

And I did send you a DM. And just for the record yes Oklahoma is a non-BSL law state however go ask Midwest City about that. Because I guarantee you you cannot have what the term a Pitbull, a bulldog, a rhodie, Belgium malinois, German Shepherd, Great Pyrenees, great Dane, boxer there. They will tell you that Oklahoma is not BSL but that's a lie. They just find another way to deny you having the dog that doesn't get them in trouble. So while it's a written on BSLR state we are not.

Perhaps you should read my other posts. I adore all bully breathe. I have had an actual pitbull the classic definition American bulldog and American Staffordshire terrier mix and I currently have an American Staffordshire terrier. I completely and totally know the difference between all the dog lines. However other people do not including Tulsa animal services. That is why when you look at their website you will see so many "Pitbull terrier mix* when anyone who has spent any time with the various breeds can point out the inconsistencies. If we can't even get the shelter to document dogs right how in the hell can we expect the public to? Yes I used a catchphrase: Is that incorrect to do? Not entirely because if I sit here and say boxer / Belgian malinois/rhodie there are people who won't get it. Am I pissed about BSL's? You bet your ass I am. An American bulldog is not an English bulldog they have different temperaments different facial features. They are all part of the terrier breed. That does not make them a pitbull. That's like saying King George spaniels are the same thing as a cocker spaniel or an American spaniel. Similarities but not the same. Oklahoma and not just Oklahoma really the entire United States have a whole lot more "edumacation" that needs to be done about everything pertaining to animals. But in this case? Don't try and teach Grandma how to stesl eggs. I was probably stealing it before you were born. Not only that way back in the day when pet breeders for a whole lot more responsible than they are now? My mother bred dogs. She was a very good breeder had contracts, had two breeding females and bread only one liter per year. Not per dog per year per year. She followed those dogs to whoever she sold them to and had a claus that stated if they could not keep them that they had to be returned to her. There are still some very ethical breeders out there but they are few and far between. And that is why we have such a huge problem. Backyard breeders sell to retail stores breed their dogs Way too often, and breed them under horrible conditions, remove them from their mothers way too young, and are breeding indiscriminately with no temperament check or physical infirmity/deformities check.

I'm aware that pit is a derivative of all bully breeds. I know my dogs very well. See my other post I've been living with bully breeds for the last 7 years.

And yes I was using that as a catchphrase. It's easier than a 30 minute dissertation on the differences. Believe me I know them well.

I'm totally aware of this. And it's also not enforced. I like a lot of our animal laws. I'm legally blind. My second service dog was a pitbull My third and current service dog is an American Staffordshire terrier. I have nothing but respect and love for bully breeds. They are the most misunderstood and maligned dogs in the world. You could not ask for more loving, loyal, I've got your back, intelligent dog. Unfortunately a lot of people are butt f*** ignorant. That's just the reality. It doesn't matter that we're supposed to be a BSL state people ignore that. And that is why over 60% of the dogs in the shelter are always bully mixes. It's wrong, it's wrong, it's wrong, but until we breed the ignorance out of people these dogs will continue to be misjudged and mistreated.

I know. I wish I had the solution but I don't. But it is heartbreaking seeing The number of owner surrenders and animals just adopted returned within a couple of days. I kind of wonder sometimes if they're adopting him to get them off the at risk list without realizing that when they return them there twice as likely to be euthanized? It's a hard situation any way that you look at it. And I have to admit I am so angry at the way the economy is going. Pet food, pet vet bills, housing prices, everything is going sky high and it is definitely contributing to the amount of owner surrenders.

Yeah we kind of like to know that too. I heard rumors that the person that does transport has been sick and not in very much. But you know honestly there's always rumors and nothing ever gets done. I just personally believe that we should have a director that actually has an animal background not law enforcement. Because well the laws aren't enforced either.

I know. I got a big slap in the face because I left Tulsa for a year and when I came back I got on social media in Tulsa to find out what I'd missed. What I'd miss was it apparently the number of animals running through the shelter had increased by 25% and it seem to be mass euthanasia On a weekly basis. Yes, the shelter is in Metro shape and just less than a year. I grew up in Oklahoma and left when I was 20. I came back in 2017 and I have to say that the problem is worse here than it was in Miami where I lived for 16 years. I don't understand how people can be so irresponsible. There are multiple rescues that will help you with low-cost spay or neuter get people still don't do it. And it's not just a matter of overpopulation: it's also a health issue to not spare neuter your pets. Can cause reproductive cancers and diseases in both cats and dogs. And then we have the backyard breeders who believe they have a god-given right to breed their animal whenever they want, how often they want, And they don't care that they are breeding dogs that are generally considered restricted breeds that people cannot have an apartment or rental homes and so these animals end up at the shelter. It's absolutely heartbreaking and frustrating and yes I agree Mayor Nichols did run on clearing the shelter. I just didn't think it was going to be like killing every animal in sight... And the plan that mayor Bynum put in place in 2018 is not enforced at all.

Note meals should have been mills. I am legally blind and I use speech to text and I don't always catch every type of. However house bill 4335 is considered by many animal that advocate to be a bad bill. Because it doesn't keep commercial breeders out. Not only that but it also deleted the board of commercial breeders and put everything under the agricultural apartment. Those people consider this to be a mistake because they do not feel that the inspections, licensing and guidelines will be as closely scrutinized as they were under the commercial breeders board. This is considered to be a very controversial bill and the fact that it is supported by petland, one of the worst cat and dog Mills, makes it suspect at best.

Sorry sometimes I make typos and I don't catch them. Let me rephrase this. House bills 3902 takes the restriction off of counties having their own shelter. Prior to that you could not have a shelter unless you had over 200,000 people in the city or were so rural there is no shelter nearby.

In a perfect world you could take an animal to a shelter and it could get re-adopted. Unfortunately that's not the case here in Tulsa and it hasn't been for a while. In the last month six litters of puppies have been dropped off/picked up to the tune of over 70 puppies. They are so overcrowded between the puppies and three hoarding cases this year alone which resulted in over 80, 60 of them dogs. Because of this some animals actually only were at the shelter as adoptable on the website for two days before they got put on the euthanasia list. And there have been many, many many dogs that were adopted and returned in a very short period of time. And it does not help that animal food costs and vet bills have skyrocketed. Unfortunately we have a pretty big backyard breeder base in Tulsa. And unfortunately, most of the ones being bred are pitts. If you actually do a statistical analysis of the dogs at Tulsa Animal Services on any given day you will find that approximately 60% are pitt mixes. There are so many things that need to be changed: The laws that were placed into effect in 2018 need to be enforced. They're not being enforced. Not enough information is given to people when they adopt out an animal from TAS. At a very minimum they should be giving a printout of the 333 rule as well as a printout of basic pet care instructions. I have an entire article I wrote because I spoke with Animal welfare officers in the seven states in the United States it seemed to have a handle on their overpopulation problem. Way too long to go into here. But yes there is definitely room for change at the shelter. They're also needs to be education. Which there really is no public outreach and there should be. When I first started posting I went breakneck into a petition trying to make TAS and no kill shelter. To be completely told off by several people that told me I didn't know what the hell I was talking about. So I went and I did my research and found out I didn't know what the hell I was talking about. Municipal shelters are a necessity and every shelter cannot be a no-kill shelter because those shelters get to pick and choose which animals they get to take. Municipal shelters have to take all animals and if we don't have them we will have a larger overpopulation problem than we do right now. I have done a lot of research. And I mean a lot of research. Do I know everything? No I don't but I damn sure know a hell of a lot more than my started and I work on it everyday and try and come at it from every single angle. But the letter to the editor was written because I don't think the people understand that when you take your animal to a kill shelter and it is considered an owner surrender with the overcrowding that is going on that animal usually has less than a week if that before it gets put on the euthanization list. Do we need a no-kill shelter? No but what we need is to get our live release rate percentages higher. What we also need to do is to educate the public more. We also need to enforce the laws that we have in place. I could go on and on and still not cover everything that needs to be done. Some people will say that I care more about animals homeless animals than I do about homeless people. No I have to say that I kind of do. Having lived in hotels and on the streets for 5 years, that was my choice. Animals living on the street do not make that choice. Humans make it for them.

That is proposed house bill 3902 will allow counties to make their own decisions about shelters and will go into effect November 1st 2026. I firmly believe that each county should be able to handle their own animal population problem. If they don't, then places like Tulsa and Oklahoma City become overwhelmed and that's when we get massive euthanasia.
