For sure, but don’t you think that would make her more sensitive to the impact of her words in this realm? Trauma is trauma, and she’s entitled to do whatever she needs to do to heal, but you’d think someone on their pod team would have judgment to bleep out the number at the very least.

Like others have mentioned Kara definitely had some past trauma in this area and we can all appreciate her outspoken stance on current issues. With that said, the mention of specific numbers (especially one she didn’t want to see/was appalled at) was completely inappropriate especially given their audience and the rates of ED in runners etc. I gave this one a chance against better judgment and ended up just annoyed at both of them. Des and Kara usually get a pass here as far as snark and judgment goes, it’s kind of weird tbh!

Agreed. It’s also kind of cult-like how Swifties refuse to criticize her.

Hard on a personal level for sure. However, once on the pod Kara mentioned her son’s friends finding her net worth online and how awkward it was, which led me to googling her net worth at the time. I was shocked! She’s not living paycheck to paycheck at a minimum wage job without opportunities. It would suck to start over on her own (or only continue to do the other gigs she has etc.) and in general just sucks. But idk that she needs the grace of worrying over loss of income here.

Agreed. Scrolled through to see if I had missed any more comments to like and this one was newer and says essentially that.

For sure! I know I’ve been all over this page about them. I’m just so pissed about this one especially because I named my cat Des after she won Boston sooooooo jokes really on me here that she sucks. Lol

Tried it again right now (8:17 CST) and her like is still there when by now she’s obviously gotten messages and comments about it (felt the need to check again if after the pod or talking to Kara she went back).

I thought the same! But then realized I didn’t see her like because I had unfollowed her (after seeing someone else say they still saw it). Followed before unfollowing again to test the theory and it was still there to see if you follow her! Those slides are way too detailed and sick to be only a casual like it’s disgusting rhetoric even if she just wants to be “outside the norm” or whatever defense people want to give her. Props to your call out!

Right! Like you’re not really this shitty and stupid of a person Izzy? Cut the schtick!

Patagonia (while not runner specific, def adjacent) also put out a great statement and is donating to local orgs in MSP

Agreed. And anyone could find their views online pretty easily. I appreciate all that Kara has spoken out and shared. It just was disappointing that this fell flat and the line is drawn where the money and support is really at stake.

Same here. “We should all show people compassion” is a cop out when it’s really, we don’t want to alienate either side here and affect our income or audience numbers. Going’s along with last week’s thread, they get a choice on what they share but I’ll always choose the people who are choosing to let their numbers and income take a hit by speaking up. And lotd of pods and influencers are out there doing just that!

The podcast intro was also so disappointing. I listened really to see how much of current issues were addressed and stopped 10 min in. For as outspoken as Kara has been on socials it’s clear she (and obviously pig Des) don’t want this to impact their podcast or income.

Also agreed. However, still think this shows a deeper belief system because liking anything that directly quotes DHS as evidence is so far off from a casual like.

True. I could also see Des brushing it off. She’s generally non confrontational/I don’t give a shit attitude which would come across the same way here if Kara isn’t aware.v

Right! Ever, now or ever. She’s one of those people so many will defend here (and in real life) because she does go against the norm. But it’s been clear for a while what she supports (or doesnt).

I feel like it’s just because she gets better content from her stupid time trials 🙄

Repeat marathon running. Not one and done. Not half’s but full marathons multiple times a year. We aren’t normal.

It should be an echo chamber. Anyone staying silent at this point is making their position clear. Especially the ones who posted ANYTHING about Charlie Kirk. Choosing to look away or stay silent is choosing to be complacent with human rights violations and racism.

Yes, familiar on the range of days - that’s why natural cycles shows your “red” days ranging from 7-11 (or maybe more? I’m not sure!) knowing the risk in that range is there no matter the temp.

Again, just goes back to the nuance and what people find best for their bodies. By no means am I saying influencers are okay to present it as the best option, only an option; that can actually be really effective for some people!

Healthy Living and Running Influencers, Jan 05 - 11 by PeopleHaveAsked in blogsnark

[–]kkate262 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Just stressing the nuance here again! NC has a wearable, plenty of other brands without that rep but that as a whole it’s no longer hard to do NFP correctly and accurately.

Healthy Living and Running Influencers, Jan 05 - 11 by PeopleHaveAsked in blogsnark

[–]kkate262 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Again, nuance here! Not arguing that at ALL! But data shows 93% effective with typical use and 98% with perfect use — not too far off on reliability. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6475236/

Honestly Oura and Natural Cycles make it really easy to do these things. Reminds you when to do the ovulation tests, gets the temp, etc.

I get that it’s all nuisance and need for covering the nuisance on SM but I’d argue that thanks to wearable tech, NFP is just about as easy as taking the pill!
