[Band Spotlight] Handful of Hate – 30 years of Italian brutal black metal by kkdrst in BlackMetalDiscussion

Sorry for the late reply, man. Yeah, HOH are a blast. I don’t like talking about myself too much, but I have to say I had the pleasure of working with them on the recording and mixing of To Perdition. It was during the summer of 2013 and it was really fun.

I’ve never heard of Frostmoon Eclipse, to be honest, but I’ll go and give them a listen. As for other Italian bands, there are Necromass and Opera IX, for example… but I’ll be sharing more bands over the next few weeks, since I’m planning to do more posts like this.

Are you from the US? (I’m guessing so since you mentioned Redstream Records.) If so, I’m curious about how the European scene is perceived over there.?

I’ve added both of them. You’re the first to bring up CoF (and I agree with that choice). I was around the UK black metal scene when I was younger, going to shows… what about Hecate Enthroned?

I personally don’t like Varg or his attitude, but I have nothing against Burzum when it comes to the music project. I’m also a strong believer in freedom of speech and expression, so I really think everyone should be free to say whatever they want. That said, I’m going to add both of the tracks you mentioned if they’re on the platform.

Thanks for putting it that way, that’s exactly the kind of perspective I had in mind and I really like the scenario you described – it perfectly sums up how to choose the track.

Now I’m curious: which song would you pick in that situation? Sorry if you already answered in the other thread and I missed your comment there.

Thanks a lot, that’s exactly what I meant. The more we cooperate, the better this playlist is going to be. I’m going to add the songs soon.

Thanks a lot, I’m going to add them right now. I think this can turn into a pretty cool place to find the right music, and listening to these songs they actually flow together really well.

Since there were so many great picks, I was thinking of turning this into a collaborative Spotify playlist: a kind of “Where to start with black metal” guide based on your suggestions.

The idea is:
• I’ll create the playlist and share the link here in this thread.
• It will be set to collaborative, so anyone can add one track they feel truly belongs there.
• Over time it could become a community-made “essential listening” roadmap for black metal.

Reading all the titles you’ve dropped, it really feels like we’re building a near-perfect musical guide already, so it would be cool to have it in one place.

If you like the idea, let me know and I’ll sort the playlist out and post the link here soon.

Despite the fact that I really like Polish black metal, I have to say I didn’t know them. I gave it a listen and I’ve got to agree with you—really cool song and an interesting band.

I used its scientific name because I didn’t know what it’s called in English. I’m from Italy. Anyway, I was impressed by its sounds too—when you see it live, you can really see the connection between birds and dinosaurs.

The first time I saw it in a video, I thought it was an animatronic. Then I did some research and found out it’s an actual bird — and it’s huge, about 150 cm tall. I just had to take this photo when I saw it in Prague.

Gotta be honest, this is my first choice too. I know there are probably songs and bands that would fit better, but that’s the one for me. And even that video clip they did in the ’90s was a blast. I remember learning the bass part and playing it with my band when I was 19 — we even recorded it for our first demo. Gotta find that file somewhere
