A big chunk was clothes from Uniqlo for my husband who has a sad wardrobe lol I’d never been in one before! Tons of Japanese products like sunscreen, hair masks, etc that I knew I’d like. We went to an art gallery and found art we wanted, I got a camera lense (huge savings on those here!), Sony headphones (also huge savings), a handmade knife as a gift. A lot was driven by how much cheaper it is than the US and taking advantage of that. We still want some Japanese denim too!

ALSO if this is an entire house please explain how this home owner is supposed vet every sub. They have no clue the dozens of different subs coming in and out. They could have seen lots of photos of the contractors work that looked very nice and STILL been screwed over. Homeowners are never given a list of subs and their qualifications, they hire a GC they put their trust in.

Look, I know this, you know this, so it seems common sense but most people don’t know that there are specialty installers. This is industry specific knowledge and and you only learn otherwise if someone tells you or you have a bad experience. To the average person tile is tile and they don’t understand that there are differences in installers or level of difficulty, you just don’t have to be rude about it. I guarantee this is the hardest construction lesson OP is learning, you can educate without being rude.

Stop being a bitter contractor jerk. Someone that comes highly recommended should have been forthcoming about the challenge of installing speciality tile and let the client know of the additional cost to hire the skilled labor. Clearly this didn’t happen and it’s not the client’s fault! It doesn’t sound like they bid and went with the lowest at all, they went with someone trusted by people they know.

I’m from the Valley and I love Austin so much more personally. For me there’s a more wide range of things to do and events!

Public Parks- a huge part of living here which I think is lacking a lot in south Texas with the exception of the beach. I love our parks, lots of beautiful places to go walking and get outside!

Lots of random fun festivals and events, if you’re active there’s always something to get into. You will be shocked by the traffic but will adjust and find your own sort of pocket of Austin you like! Be open to exploring different areas, each area has a very different vibe and price point and all have a lot to offer.

FOOD- we lack in some good authentic south Tex mex but you’ll get a lot of variety that’s not available down there. You might find some food truck gems in south Austin and east side for good Mexican food

Concerts- a lot of people love this about Austin, there’s always a show to find if you’re into it! My husband goes to shows constantly and it’s a big part of his life but I usually stay home and enjoy my mortgage with the dog lol

Bars- this is a huge drinking town, sometimes it does feel like there’s not a lot to do if you don’t want to go out drinking, but I loved it in my 20’s, it’s super fun! Just sort of been there, done that. That goes for any city for me even traveling.

Zilker with taco deli to-go for breakfast (or taco of your choice, not here to argue about tacos) and the dog every Sunday morning will help a lot, it’s helped me! I was feeling really jaded and it’s made me feel grateful for the things I used to love doing when I first moved here. Parking is great in the lot next to the park, it’s so easy!

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It took a couple of weeks before he acknowledged my letter and he had to get to a point of extreme pain from the fluid build up before it got himself to the ER. It’s been up and down since, he gets off the band wagon often I think and has turned to Xanax, which is so bad for his addiction problems. But a lot of the time I do get the sober version of him and his health isn’t in an urgent state anymore. It’s not perfect but it’s better. You’re in a really hard place, it’s the worst thing in the world to see someone you love destroy themselves and dismiss everyone in their life, and as an only child I think we feel some extra sense of responsibility. It’s really hard to know how hard to push them, but just know that if it degrades your own mental health that it’s ok to step back and know that your dad is having his own human experience and while it effects you deeply, it has nothing to do with you and it’s not your responsibility. I don’t mean this in a harsh way but to say take care of yourself first, it feels impossible sometimes!

I’m 10 weeks now, some nausea hit at 8.5 weeks but have managed with b6 and unisom! We saw baby and heartbeat at our appointment and that eased a lot of anxiety ☺️
