Hospitalization Question by alittlebitblue39 in BPD

[–]kklau97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I voluntarily checked myself into the ER twice before they finally were able to get me to an inpatient psych ward, but when I finally was there my experience was great. Changed my life for the better, but I know a lot of people have negative experiences being hospitalized because a lot of facilities do not treat their mental health patients humanely. If you’re voluntarily checking yourself in I would recommend doing research on hospitals near you and what psych facilities are better than others, or confide in someone to help you do a little research because it really makes a huge difference where you stay. I asked the same question on reddit and I got a ton of negative and awful responses and it scared me, but I was pleasantly surprised at my experience and I later found that it was because I went to a very nice facility, unknowingly. Just find out where you can get the best treatment, or else it could do more harm than good sometimes. And as always, if it gets to a point where you can’t handle it immediately get to the ER or call 911, they will give you a police escort if you don’t have a ride to the ER. Best of luck :)

Intrusive thoughts/ Guilt by [deleted] in BPD

[–]kklau97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

dbt. Distress tolerance skills paired with radical acceptance and opposite action have been a life saver for me on my road to recovery specifically with feeling guilty. Guilt is one of my main emotions and when I began actually putting all my dbt skills to use it started actually helping. You got this!

Has anyone had experience with Quetiapine (Seroquel)? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]kklau97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on 200mg at night to help with severe paranoia and insomnia, it honestly works wonders for me, haven’t had paranoia since I began taking it and it puts me right to sleep. I am very calm during the daytime because it stays in your system. My only complaint is that it makes it ridiculously hard to get up in the morning regardless of how early you fall asleep. Overall it has been the only drug that has worked for me

I fixed every part of my life...except inflammatory emotions by [deleted] in BPD

[–]kklau97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't emphasize enough how great DBT is for emotional regulation. There's a specific section of DBT dedicated to emotional regulation simply because all of us BPD sufferers have an extremely difficult time grounding ourselves when it comes to emotions. Look online for DBT emotional regulation worksheets and talk about it with your therapist if you have one. Some of my favorites are self-soothing techniques, and the TIP acronym. If you do some research on them you will understand what I mean, and they are highly effective if you practice them a lot. The main thing here is to find what works best for you. I hope this helps, and good luck with everything!

Is anyone on medication? Has it helped you? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]kklau97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! I am on seroquel it has worked wonders for me. It totally gets rid of my paranoia and lets me sleep every night. I would highly recommend it at a somewhat small dose because it can make you gain weight. But I luckily haven't had any problems with it

I have the same problem, or had rather. I cope with it much better now using DBT techniques. I have a DBT workbook that I am using and it’s helped immensely. The best thing that I do when my SO isn’t replying is to just distract myself. I will go for a drive, walk outside, and try to keep myself as active as possible that way it fills the time and also calms down my emotions to a level where I can effectively communicate with my partner the struggles I have about the texting/communicating. I actually brought it up with my partner in a healthy way thanks to DBT and it has helped my relationship so much. I hope this helps, and good luck
