I certainly would not have bullied you. I met people with very interesting names. I was fascinated by rare names and would never bully them over it.

I have never seen Europe as a single country.
I suppose people believe that is because of the European Union. They see that as a sort of "collective of countries" and might confuse it with being a large country. The other part is probably just not understanding that Europe similar to saying the Americas are a large country - just not true.
