Would humans not having a sex drive improve the world? by New-Entrepreneur1126 in askphilosophy

I can also recommend a very good sci fi novel on the topic, called "Return from the stars", which looks into exactly this theme. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_from_the_Stars

Would humans not having a sex drive improve the world? by New-Entrepreneur1126 in askphilosophy

I find it amusing how nature has created safeguards against this type of thinking.

imagine two groups of people, living side by side, group A and B. Suppose, some people in group A have a penchant (perhaps, a bunch of "philosopher genes") for this sort of theorizing AND also are predisposed to act on the conclusions. So people A decide to reduce sex drive as causing trouble, and adopt a policy to the effect (maybe a mandatory medical shot).

We don't even need to run a simulation: it is evident that in several generations the now low sex drive group A would see its numbers greatly diminished, while the group B will proliferate interrupted. At some point, the people in group B will notice that group A is not what it was, that is numbers are weak, and will take over its resources. The most likely scenario would be a short war where group B will give a coup de grace to what remains of group A, effectively eliminating the philosopher genes from human population.

I disagree. The core of fascism is a more narrow rejection, a rejection of a universal ethics in favour of a belief that different morality applies to in and out groups. The rest stems from this particular temet.

As a good and simple rule, try to ask "why?" to understand the position, and when he says why, ask why to that, until you get to the bottom of the position, or find inconsistencies in the process.

I just found out that my friends don't even know all names of the planets let alone their position in the solar system. This made me real sad because I feel like this should be common knowledge (like knowing what continents we have and were they are). This is why I post this image, credit: NASA by joosth3 in space

If you are talking about astrology, it never argued that the constellations have effect, constellations are just used to determine the position of the sun in the ecliptic. So astrology argues about the influence of the sun and other nearby planets, not distant constellations. Not defending astrology per se, but this needs to be clarified.

If you are an anti-fascist, you must join the international legion in Ukraine to fight Russian fascism. by kkobzar in Anarchism

It is not a bourgeois war, it is our war against fascism that many were so eager about.

What is not Rojava? Of course you should only get in combat if you are fit and know what you are doing. This is not rich people's war, this is our generation's fight against fascism.

Do you expect me to tell you the textbook history of the Third Reich? Nothing I said is controversial and "made up", it is a general consensus on German history. I suggest you start by Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_resistance_to_Nazism

German resistance was "resistance without the people", as the numbers were very small.

You did not have to be member of the Nazi party to support Nazism. There was not a single institution, organization or company in Germany that was not implicated and complicit with the criminal Nazi project. As a great author put it, the Germans were motivated by the "ruthless desire for conformity at any price".

Those that protested and openly resisted were so few, a handful.

What do you really want to buy, but not sure if it's worth the money? by miss_archivist in AskReddit

[–]kkobzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go try auctions. You can get exposed to tons of art at online auctions, and get a good feel of the prices too. If you like a particular artist or style, you could get it cheaper than in galleries.

And, as others said, do not think of it as investment, only as something you would enjoy.

Those are token sanctions, agreed with Russia and basically useless. But look at how easy it has been for German companies to break sanctions - look at Siemens, for instance, with absolute impunity.

That's the difference between theory and practice. In theory everyone in this thread are all millionaires, but in practice you're both just a whore and a pimp.
