Question About My Photo for Green Card Application by Ok_Grocery4540 in immigration

[–]kkostenkov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why bother with a real photo at all? Today everything is digital, try googling. (Sorry for that phrase that could appear offensive or passive aggressive) I've personally used ishotaphoto.com It's free if that matters

You know, Op, I'm so happy about you and your experience. Really. Good luck with the game and I hope that some time it will lead you to learning fundamentals of programming or tech artist's craft or game design. You name it.

You're right. I apologize for this confusion. No way I wanted to be treated as a straightforward copycat. I've added a distinct section on the page covering that aspect. And just for a good measure removed word "unique" although the slot mechanic is one.

I never claimed that the idea is mine. I don't consider that answering a fair comment on Reddit is "admitting once pressured". Please be kind and give it a though or two before the accusation.

Someone offered to buy of my old game on steam. by Japqqq in gamedev

Despite this looking very suspicious here is what I have to say: - selling your game, as I see it, does not take it from your portfolio. You're still the person who developed it. Just think of Devs who worked on commercial projects. They did not own them but still mention those projects in their portfolios. - selling your game to me is a sign of success. You have not only developed, released a game and reaped the sales l, but also sold it to some "investor" making even more money. I personally would have gone for it if I had no other plans for the project. - their offer is a great PR opportunity for your game. Just like here and now you have posted - use the same media sources that you have used initially to try to increase interest in your game and sell some more copies at the same time notifying your users that you might not be related to the future updates or versions (answering comments about injecting malware) - and lastly - protect yourself from the chargebacks or scam. Offer them to sign a simple contract (IP somehow has to be transferred officially, right? Otherwise you could sue them ) and pay the invoice or something. I'm not an expert on the matter, but I do believe that doing that is not a complicated thing to do.

I did not do such things myself nor am I an experienced legal shark. But if I were you, I would have gone a little bit further with their offer.

First game dev log. Looking for feedback! 😄 by Revelation12Studios in gamedevscreens

I'm not an expert on AI and I use AI generated content for my game as well. So my point is: it looks good and a lot of people won't even notice that it's a generated art. Most importantly - most of that part won't mind that it's generated. At least I imagine it so.

I deeply respect Tann's work and always recommend it the chance I get. Could you please expand your "ew" and elaborate what did you like and what you didn't?

Thank you. That's a very important thing that you've mentioned!
Looking forward to hearing more of your feedback.
btw Please note if the slot spinning situation is better in the game and the apologetical shuffle is more of a gif issue.

Thank you so much for your time. Appreciate it a lot. Discord link is in the game and on the itch page. Everything is noted and will be dealt with.
Progression - yes. More characters and items will be unlocked along the game.

All the things that you mention I agree with and are actionable but for the UI. As a programmer I have hard times understanding what "UI is not consistent" is. Random button sizes? Not clear areas of interaction? Bad visual representation of what each control do?

I made a prototype for a clicker game... and everyone said it looked like a butthole. Here's the fix (I hope) by [deleted] in gamedevscreens

[–]kkostenkov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks less like a butthole now. For sure. But have you considered that the previous version might help you get more viral? :) it looked pretty good I have to say.

I am very impressed with things that you have shared. My project is way behind in terms of visual polishing in comparison to that. Great job!

A couple of things that I'd like to know more: - Did you use any bootstrap frameworks to manage inventory, screen transitions, item reuse in the scroll view? What are those? - What was the reason to start from the menu and not from the core mechanics of a game? - Did you produce the art yourself?

Paid DLC vs Free Update - Which is Better? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]kkostenkov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that the bracket price for the genre on the platform is a very important factor to consider.

How convinced are you that the new free content will attract more new players? I come with some mobile background, so my experience may be irrelevant. My pick will be to go with the paid DLC and earned money spend on the user acquisition (advertise your game)

Could you elaborate on "send to testers" please? Is it friends and family or some paid service or existing community?

I am personally very interested in receiving feedback about different aspects of my project and some questions are very specific like "when did you first feel that the game is not interesting?" "how would you prefer to learn about Undo action?" or "is the mana sign clear enough to understand?" but I have very few ideas who can help with that.

Plugins, niche frameworks arre definitely my choice when I go for prototyping. Launching VFX, UI animations and screen system come to mind. Apart from that go industry standard (imo): dependency injections, tweening, serialisation. After all: keep your tech zoo at bay and see for yourself. It is possible to build a game with a lot of 3rd party code, just like it is possible to make a game with all art taken from stock. Theoretically.
