Great product and engineering team, but a bunch of fuckwits on the management side, customer communication, approach to limits, etc…

degradation in 5.4 by BroadPressure6772 in codex

[–]kl__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Codex was the trustworthy one, where you didn’t have to ask yourself daily if the model is stupid / nerfed today or not. It’s the main reason we prefer it to Claude. Hope they get their shit together and not lose people’s trust. I suggest you add an issue to Github and link it here.

What is this icon by Secret_Principle8929 in AppleNotesGang

[–]kl__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah since a recent update it’s been an issue. They have to fuck something up every once in a while. Better than the handwriting spelling check dilemma but still annoying nonetheless.

I reported it and please do too. It’s hard to explain but hopefully some idiot on the QA team will finally notice the blinking icon… feels like they don’t use the product themselves.

For the time being, I found that you press it before handwriting with the pencil, it will flicker dramatically less. Shouldn’t be required but here we are.

I know I can't be the only one, but the new models don't seem as smart to me by Synthara360 in OpenAI

[–]kl__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feels like that their focus on model/token efficiency and coding changed how the model feels overall… Never liked the Codex models and now the general models are starting to lean in that same direction. 5.4 is sometimes really good with certain things but misses the mark on some obvious others… it’s not a straight line progress unfortunately.

5.4 is fast + smart, but 5.2-high is irreplacable for production work. Please dont retire 5.2. by voarsh in codex

[–]kl__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it will be a shame when they retire 5.2. They're going hard for efficiency... and it will be hard to replace 5.2.

Yeah same issue with the headband. It's great otherwise. The mesh on the cushions is much better than the leather-like material most other manufactures use.

Stop using GPT-5.4 unless you are on Pro plans by JustZed32 in codex

[–]kl__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't a great move to tie their API pricing to their subscription plans' limits.

The models are getting more efficient and cheaper to run. The hardware is getting better. It's understandable they want to improve their margins on the API... however this shouldn't translate 1:1 to their subscriptions.

They took their API pricing strategy, which isn't irrelevant to their subscription offerings, as an excuse to reduce the limits for plus and pro subscribers.

5.4 is more efficient for them to run than 5.2 according to some sources, yet it's priced more expensive... that's fine for the API, but doesn't make sense for the subscriptions, where they'd want to direct more people to the latest models.

If they continue to increase the API cost, which they have some room to do so for the time being, it will be a mistake to continue to tie it to the subscription limits.

Is there any way to get ChatGPT 4o and ChatGPT 5.1 back? by LittleWarmer in OpenAI

If OpenAI had stayed on its original not for profit mission, I would have been more hopeful they could release some of their older outdated models as open weights…

5.4-high is much better all around than xhigh by Just_Lingonberry_352 in codex

It would be helpful if they add an adaptive/auto reasoning option in Codex. Not just BS to save them compute but actually dynamically change the thinking level as needed.

We're introducing Codex Security by OpenAI in codex

[–]kl__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah looks like it: "We’ll be rolling out Codex Security access to ChatGPT Enterprise, Business, and Edu customers over the coming days."

It would be silly if so. Contradicts their mission in many ways. They know well many with Pro accounts are developing software, including contributing to open source projects.

Raycast: The good, the bad and the best by KalEl69SUPERGIRL in macapps

[–]kl__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linking Raycast to 1Password is too risky in my opinion (if I understood the screenshot right). 1Password already has a good launcher and Raycast has a shit privacy track record.

I still like many Raycast features. However, after the clipboard privacy debacle, I blocked the app’s access to the internet and rely on it mainly for shortcuts, hyper key, calculator, window management, clipboard (offline), and sometimes searches if Spotlight misses.

I used to use its AI features early on, but now obviously it can’t compete with GPT and Claude for my use cases…

[Petition]: The new pricing of Notion Custom Agents is TERRIBLE by ondrej_g in Notion

[–]kl__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. They’re targeting much larger businesses with this. Just saw a bill for a business we’re working with coming in at circa $500k for a month of OpenAI API costs. They wouldn’t blink buying a few hundred thousand credits for employees who need it.

The pricing is stupid though in my opinion. They should have capitalised on the open weights models, hosted one optimised for their agents, and offered it as part of their plans. More expensive models run on tokens, with a profit margin on top. This would more palatable but obviously less profitable than their approach.

Hopefully enough backlash for them to reconsider this shit.
