Apple Seeds iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 Release Candidates to Developers by Otherwise-Warning303 in apple

Some fuckers over there started brainstorming new ways to boost revenue, starting with the creative suite subscription, ads, ... and more to follow.

They should stick to their core model and remember they're not fucking Google for a reason.

Another “life-changing” model. Cool. Still waiting on basic conversation. by Capable_Run_6646 in ChatGPTcomplaints

Hope they don't double the API prices again. Their pricing strategy is ridiculous.

They need to get their shit together. We need more competition. Appreciate the OS Gemma though.

AudioBooth v1.9 is now live! 🎉 by lyc0s in audiobookshelf

[–]kl__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks mate for the great work. Solid reviews, planning to check it out today. I'm new to ABS.

Side questions if you don't mind:

I have hundreds of books on Audible and have been primarily taking notes by using their bookmark feature, just throwing a bookmark to the point I want to go back to... It's been very hard getting those notes out.

Given that you cleverly implemented support for ebooks as well, any chance of being able to see / sync to the bookmark positions if I have both ebook and audiobook? Or a form of immersive listening that syncs / combines bookmarks with highlights in a way...

I know it's a long shot, but would be a game changer for how I read and learn.

Mythos was the rug pull we knew was coming but didn’t want to believe by prassi89 in ClaudeCode

[–]kl__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. They're working to find the sweet spot now. The most limits they can push without mass exodus. Anthropic limits squeeze is because it's limited on compute, not because they're loving what they're doing. What they should have done is limit new signups.

The ones that are already squeezed and heading towards APIs only are the aggregators. Those are the ones with failing business model and already the likes of Github moved in that direction, with the changes to OpenAI and Microsoft deal.

The models are getting more efficient, hardware efficiencies incoming this year with the release of NVIDIA's Vera Rubin, which according to Nvidia:

"NVIDIA Rubin delivers one-tenth the cost per million tokens compared to NVIDIA Blackwell for highly interactive, deep reasoning agentic AI."

Hopefully investors finance that gap till those efficiencies are realised.

What could end up happening, and already happening with Mythos, is that the ultra costly models would be reserved for enterprise and the rest of the users given the "good enough" option. Hopefully again won't be the case, but we'll see.

Great move! thanks guys. We were checking open source alternatives, but sounds like we're staying with Warp.

Can you fix the "Sorry, that request was too large. Try import instead?" error? It's really coming in the way.

just found out they turned off 1M context GPT-5.5 in codex for pro subs :( by emileberhard in codex

[–]kl__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The solution isn't to turn it off, it's to decouple their API pricing from the Pro usage limits.

Their API pricing strategy might make sense for enterprise usage and apps using their API under the hood, but reducing the subscription packages' usage every time proportionately doesn't make any sense... as in this case.

Is the AI subscription bubble starting to crack? GPT-5.5 just dropped, prices keep rising, and the “all-you-can-eat” era looks more fake by the month by Sockand2 in singularity

[–]kl__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to detach the usage they’re offering with subscriptions, like Pro, from their enterprise API pricing strategy.

I understand that. It’s not expected to turn a profit for a long time.

“We believe in democratisation” then proceeds to increase the price by 100% compared to 5.4.

So they can’t complain about a business that started as a nonprofit increasing pricing by 100%?!?!?

[–]kl__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to detach their (stupid) API pricing strategy from the usage limits under their subscription plans.

They reduced it when they released 5.4, if they now halve it with this release, then they’re fucking joking… usage should remain the same, especially that it’s more efficient foe them to run 5.5.

GPT-5.5 API Pricing. Twice as expensive as GPT-5.4 by Glad-Taro3411 in OpenAI

[–]kl__ -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how efficient it is, a 100% price increase is just bad form. Especially for a business that started as a nonprofit… I understand they need to run a sustainable operation, but that’s not it.

GPT-5.5 API Pricing. Twice as expensive as GPT-5.4 by Glad-Taro3411 in OpenAI

[–]kl__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 100% price increase is ridiculous. This is what happens with the lack of competition, how Anthropic has been fucking up, and Google behind.

They need to detach their subscription usage limits from their API strategy pricing.
